Performance suspension badge
Performance suspension badge
Hi guys, Happy new year! question about suspension. My 1988 bird (2.8) needs new rear shocks as well as front struts and springs. Which are the best ones to install, and not too expensive? Also, my car has a badge on the passenger side dash which reads performance suspension. Does that mean that I got some sort of upgraded suspension in my car, and if so, what kind? Or how do I find out what kind? The old owner had no idea coz he was the second owner. Thanks guys!
And i stand corrected. Read Kizz's post here:

If you still have the sticker in your console, with all the 3 digit RPO codes, you can run them thru thirdgen.org's RPO decoder, off the main thirdgen.org page.
ANY shocks and struts will be better than the original equipment stuff you've got on the car now. Old shocks/struts = Dead shocks/struts!! Nobody makes a shock specific to v6's, they're the same between v8's and v6's. You can buy $600 adjustable Koni "reds" that will be awesome, but KYB has a relatively new model out called the AGX's, they're adjustable too. Front struts are $120/each from SummitRacing.com. Normal KYB front struts are $60/each, and rear gas-a-just shocks are $20/each.

It's not as bad as I made it seem, I think they're $600/set, not $600/each, sorry if I confused you- but yeah, they're still expensive as hell. They definately wouldn't last long on Jersey roads. Some guys used the AGX's over at the Suspension/Chassis/Brakes forum, if you want to try doing a search.
I'm on the fence as to whether I'll put them on, or just regular struts... especially now that I know how to install them myself. I paid $90/each for Monroe Sensatrac's in 1996... granted, that included installation, and they were great struts, but over 100,000 miles later, they're shot. I suppose I could cash in on the lifetime warranty, but I'd rather just put new ones in myself. (Besides, I guess technically my car wasn't supposed to last this long, their lifetime warranty probably expected only another 50,000 miles! Hahaha...)
