Fuel is awfull up here in Canada right now...76.9 cents per Litre. That is like around $3.06 per gallon right now..... I don't want to sound anti Goerge Bush, but I hope he knows what he is doing, cause this sure looks more like a "Oil War" with Iraq more then anything. And we are paying for it BIG time.

Having been a former member of the United Sates Senate (1980),
your views are not ENTIRELY wrong.
AND I promise, not entirely correct, either.
I've been in the heart of the powers of this country.
I shall leave it, there.

One of our 3rd Gen members
Graeme
may be going over seas very soon.

I know Graeme, personally.
it tears my heart to know....

I asked him to write on a bomb to be dropped
This one is for Gregory.
My now two year old Son, born on Sept 11, 2000.
His family had his first birthday stolen from him.
I know that's minor, but....
We only had that first birthday, once. And I waited quite a while for a family....
Fu cking turban heads

If you guys know Graeme, send him an email to say hi.
If you don't know it, email me.
He needs our thoughts, along with the others, so innoncent & too young....especially the innoncent ones over there, too.

Those innoncents one in those "other" countires, can't speak at all, they will be "silenced", if ya know what I mean.

We do have a fu cking decent country, sometimes.

I personally know, as I raised my voice, even while I worked in the Senate.
Damn glad I could, as my voice/conscience was my only weapon.
Buddy of mine got me started, Sorry, all.

Wow, long message. I skipped quite a bit, I'll read more later, but rust on that part of the distributor doesn't mean a DAMN thing!!!

Those parts use magnets. As the center disc (reluctor) spins on the shaft, every time the 6 magnets line up with the feelers/fingers (pole pieces), a "pulse" is felt by the pick-up coil. The pick-up coil sends the signal to the ignition module, which tells the spark coil to "send a spark!"

So you could have the pole pieces covered with rust, and as long as you feel a magnetic pulse as you spin the distributor shaft, you're fine. The rust shouldn't be obscene, but if it's light surface rust, don't worry about it. And there's no need at ALL to go sanding down the sides of the pole pieces. Aligning the "feelers" so they're an even distance from the magnets on the "center disc" is a good idea, especially if you can measure it, by using a feeler gauge.

And as to $80 to have injectors cleaned, Rich Jensen at http://www.cruizinperformance.com actually disassembles them, cleans them, reassembles them, and flow tests them for less than that price. You also won't be redlining your engine or pumping the exhaust full of carbon.

Cleaning old spark plugs by media blasting them still doesn't take into account the wear of the electrodes, but is good for diagnostics... and Karl, do you really set the gap by eye? You've got better eyes than I do! If the plugs are relatively new, then you could media blast them, I guess. My dad has a spark plug gap tool with a little wire brush on it that works well.

As to spark checkers, I picked up this set a few months ago, on sale for $12. I haven't used any of it yet, but it's a great deal... especially considering the local pep boys charges $5/noid light! http://www.eastwoodcompany.com/aspfi...0.asp?T1=46150

You have the GM book, right? Have you run through the TPS chart? I wonder if you've got a bad wire between the computer and the TPS. Is that 40-44 PSI fuel pressure when the car is off, and you prime the pump? Or is that fuel pressure when the engine's running?

As to "hey canada, we're out of trees", sounds like a bit from Denis Leary's "no cure for cancer" comedy routine, from '93.

Denis Leary rocks...period....he's so damn cynical it's disgusting, but still funny! As to the Canada comments...well, all I gotta say is, that's f----ed up. The Taliban blow up two huge buildings of OURS with OUR hi-jacked planes, killing a bunch of people...Iraq keeps trying to keep our inspectors out and giving us incomplete or incorrect information because they're HIDING things...North Korea is trying to jumpstart their nuclear program and threatens to build nuclear bombs in violation of the treaties they agreed to about a decade ago..and you want to INVADE f--cking Canada??? Whose troops have been helping us out in the middle east? Who one of OUR fighter planes just dropped a BOMB on and killed several of THEIR soldiers? Grow up.

What in the HELL are you rambleing about?? Coins? Your pissed at Canadians over coins. What are you a paper boy?? You really have some growing up to do. As for getting riled up, and not starting things, you sure seem to keep them going. Lets end this NOW!..Or a Moderator can handle it from here.

This is the last time I respond to stupidity. Dale I hope you can get your thread back here. I am out due to ignorance of some people. Hope you get her figured out. Sorry I was unable to help you.

Tom, the magent feeling is their, but very week. The magnet is also cracked as ked said in private email. thats not good. Also the rust is to the point it is not surface, can not be sanded off, it is "hard core". The poles and prongs were so bent, They were not adjustable buy feeler gauge as I tryed. I had to spin and bend just to make it so they wouldn't hit. I disliked doing that way. Looks like I will have to rebuild again. (shoots self in foot!!!). If I am going to be paying that much for rebuild, I will prob chunk out the cash and get cap, and plugs. dont have the $ for some taylors yet, but will be on my list. I would also like to figure out whats up with tps. No I don't have the gm book on it. So if someone has one, and would be willing to scan the pages for that. I would more than willing to accept them

As for comment made towards Canadians. That was highly uncalled for and I am surprised this thread has not been closed!!

This is exactly why my parents taught me -

1. never discuss politics with people - it can get nasty
2. never discss religion with people - this can also get nasty

Just thought Id give my 2 cents on this whole matter !

Gapping plugs by Eye.
It can be done easily.
Know how they come outta boox?
Measure the gap, I'll bet you probably won't have to touch them
IF YOU HAVE RIGHT PLUG RIGHT APPLICATION.
NOW that said,
I study one, I study one I pulled from my engine, look at it & decide.
Queston it? Ding or bend, GENTLY. IF I feel like it, I do check.
Generally after playing with things a bit, ya can get by on eye & feel & touch. IF ya thinking "Jedi" & "Star Wars" yeeah, that is close.
Lately my plug change has been recent after a new plug.
Aged of vehicles is getting up there.
With my new mills, tho, those plug changing days will be far from often chores.
I have cleaned plugs by the plug cleaner ya seen sold often (Harbor Freight is a good source).
It used the plastic media blasting stuff.
MUST CLEAN WELL AFTER with compressed air, spray of cleaner & JUDGE! for yourself.
This theory does work, well.
MEANING, if it's a $3-$5 per plug cost & was short time previously changed, give it a shot!

Now the cheap shot from Canada because of "coins" give & their tree but.....

FYI Trent Lott was recently removed for a very high spotlighted position because of poor choice of words.
ALOT OF PEOPLE REALLY GOT THEIR BUTTS FOR ON THE LINE FOR ALL OF US RIGHT NOW.
INFIGHTING is the LAST WORD ANYONE should be forwarding to this thread.
Uncalled for and wrong.
We've gone back & forth & "enjoyed".
Even Trent Lott apoligized.
Think of "I Saw The Light" & was shown the door

The cracked magnet item, I was told will disrupte the energy flow, effectivly and that statement makes common sense. The result is the weakend igniting flame.
With these MPFI computerized gizmo anyone runs these days (pick your brand, year, especially to the present) ignition is the delicate balance to burn fuel efficently, reduce pollutants, make power.
Now, common sense says, if ya got a weak ignition system, the power isn't there to POSSIBLY even start vehicle.
I personally discovered this detail when I had my complete ignition system failure, I saw the "blue-ish", assumed (as in older cars/old days) "I got spark" NEXT test......
After I threw everything at it, I pulled old Accel coil from my 1985 S-10 Blazer w/2.8 (and the coil had over 100K miles on it already!), damned if the Firebird didn't start.
Crowd gathered cause they knew I had worked hard to find the "cure" & were kinda surprised it finally ran.
I had check each injector, rebuilt distributor (& broke that magnet part during rebuild, so I just bought it, as was told...). was at the final what now? Give me a gun!

After all this BS & facts,
Blue-ish tint in plug spark ain't good, Maynard!
The harsher the weather conditions, the more you've found out how true is this detail.

Harsher the words, less help ya get, too.

Well, if the reluctor is cracked, that's definately a problem. Go get a distributor from a junkyard car; it can even be from a 2.8 (you have the 3.1, right)? Put your new spark module on it, and rebuild the junkyard one. No reason to spend $150 on a rebuilt distributor! Before I rebuilt mine, I bought a junkyard one as a "backup"... the guy charged me $10. So you couldn't use a feeler gauge because the pole pieces (fingers) were that badly bent? How'd they get that way? Weird. Maybe a previous owner tried messing with the distributor?

And yeah, leave the politics out of this forum. Lets get back to cars and women!!

Dale has been quoted $75 for that one piece.
Sucks.
He's right to decide to spend a bit more & get the whole distributor "new" (rebuilt)
Per Tom's suggestion, now the women part
