High flow CAT or NOT???????
I am putting in a dyno max 2.5 inch exaust and was wondering if i should get a high flow cat or a stock one either way i need a new one. I have herd someone say that they put one a high flow and they lost a lot of power has this happened to anyone else? Help Please!!!!!!!
Not true, I run a high flow Gibson cat 2 1/2" inlet and outlet and deffinately gained power. You can't buy Gibsons anymore so my next on will be a Random Technology stainless-steel cat 2 1/2". Randoms are better than Gibson anyway in durability.

I put on a random high flow when I installed my cat back and I ost ALOT of TRQ down low. Granted i gained some in 5th gear, but who is street racing in 5th gear?

-Oh I forgot-Isn't your motor blown up or something, last I heard you weren't going to be around anymore because you were going to now install a bigblock in place of your possibly malfunctioning V6- I really think you had more problems than too much flow out of a cat. You can get direct bolt-in cats, too... if they don't list for the 2.8, get a v8 f-body cat with a 2.5" inlet and 2.5" flanged ball outlet. That means it'll fit the 2.8/3.1 exhaust system. If you do a search on this board, I've mentioned the Catco part # a million times, I think it was $95. I paid $70 for my "Products for Power" bolt-in high-flow cat, back in '96. I lost no power, but I had a gutted cat on the car. Didn't know it was gutted until I removed it!
And I was originally going to get a stock cat- until I found out how expensive they were. So I figured, well, if they're that much $$, I'll call summit and see what a high-flow one costs. Turned out it was CHEAPER than the stocker that Pep Boys tried to sell me!

I've been thinking about putting on a high flow cat as well when I install the C_H_C headers on my car. But lately I have read much controversy that with the open cat I will lose TQ big time....

It definately added power over the stock cat and I'll put my money where my mouth is to prove it anytime.

And if I GAINED power, then why can I no longer spin 3rd gear? when before I could? Even with cheaper tires on NOW.????
And I never said my V6 was malfunctioning. I said I was tired of try to "hop" it up. I want a real engine, and frankly this V6 ain't gonna get it.

Something else probably broke on your car.
And WW/3.1RS, so, if the cat really kills your engine (and I doubt it will), then put it on eBay for $10 off what you paid, and put your old one back on. I think it's all nonsense, though. Hell, even a NEW stock GM cat will be "higher flow" than the original ones that came on 82-92 f-bodies!!
