new engine?

my v6 engine doesnt really have enough power (atleast not enough to beat my pesky friend with a 305). i was thinking about putting a 350 in, or a 3.4 DOHC v6 wich one is better?

this is a loaded question it dependes on witch one you want??

you can only go so fast in eather situation the question is how much money do you have???

you need to do some reseach on the subject b4 you just start coming up with different motors that will fit!!

its like asking would you rather have a 305 or 400 they will both fit with ease and run fine. it come down to money and what kind of car is it going to be a street car or flat out drag car there is only a fine line between the two.....

If in not mistaken the 3.4L doch is a high perf
fwd engine it made some 220 hp or something like that. not sure if any cars got these engines.

the 3.4 DOHC went in GTPs for a while, but they were front wheel drive. You can't find a rear wheel drive DOHC 3.4 because they weren't made. So I would suggest going the V8 route.

swapping a fwd engine would be a nightmare, and that's if it would even fit between the strut towers. going the v8 way, or a 3.4 from a 4th gen is the best way to go.

which 305 does your friend have? please say it's not an lg4. our little engines will usually hang right with, or beat a 305 thirdgen.

lol he's talking about me, and i have an L03. we've raced b4 already and he started out about 2 cars ahead of me (before we started racing) and then when i punched it i caught right up to him at about 80 mph... so i know that i could take him easily if we were lined up from a roll or at a stop. but his 2.8 is a **** load faster than my old 2.8 was.

EDIT: i'm switching over to a TPI setup in the near future so if he gets his 3.4 then we'll have a good race heh

im not converting the camaro to a FWD, im keeping it RWD. considering its a V6 block it should fit and mount in with ease. Instead of keeping it mounted sideways as it is noirmally i wanna turn it the way it should be lining up the tranny to the block like it is right now on my 2.8. the only thing is i dont know if i need to buy an adapter plate to adapt the bellhousing to the block. i also wanna go V6 because i will be keeping 3-4 hundred pounds off my camaro, especially outta the front end.

i wouldn't go with the twin cam. it won't really fit inbetween the strut towers and you'd have to custom make some engine mounts as this engine was mounted differently in the car it was originally designed for. those engines were mostly for HP but you have a RWD and you want an even amount of HP and Torque. The 3.4L from the 4thgen V6's is your best bet, if you wanna stay V6

I've done two 3.4 swaps & wrote the tech thread to help/coach (about 30+ now) others to make up their mind.

The DOHC 3.4 won't fit, it's too wide a mill & the timing/cam chain is a night of relibility.
Why do you think you don't see any 3.4 dohc mills at all anymore?
GM agreed with their own real world street usage assessment.

IF ya want faster than a 3.4 mill swap done smog legal and right, sell your current ride & buy a V-8 powered car.
My Firebird ain't slow, but, it won't win every I need that road space in LA race.
A 3.4 upgrade is a very simple and very detailed swap.
YET as I warn ALL OTHERS, it's a custom swap and every swap is different.
End result, it's totally sleeper looking, open hood, see it now, that's your end result with a 3.4 under the current induction/ignition system.
Enjoy your decision, it's alot of fun to figure out the right answer for yourself.
No I've never raced it at strip I assume It'd be low 17 high 16 car.
