Recommendations & parts#'s

before ya ask i've done the search thing tooo many times to count ......................................

there are just way way way too many files to read through and most of them were for the 2.8 not the 3.1

i'm going to upgrade to the cloyes timing chain and while i'm at it i fiugred i'd just go for broke..................

so here what i'm thinking so far:

a clotes timing chain and cover
cam / roller rockers / value springs / performance pulleys / value covers / water pump / distributor / coil / ignition / fule injectors and regulator

see why i came up with unending search results?

ok now for all the above items are there any particular brands i should use and if so do you have would you just happen to have part numbers and ruff prices or even the name of a good rep from submitt who know's our cars?????

also is there anything that i've missed that i might want to change / upgrade while i'm at it??????

****************************************************

but heres the catch
i still need my car to pass New York State emissions

thanks

Plus, a clogged filter will make your fuel pump work harder, and trust me guys, you don't want to change a pump.

Oh, duh.. as to the recommendations; first off, no cam is certified for emissions-legal use on our 2.8's and 3.1's and 3.4's. The cam specs look like they'll pass emissions, and the cams might not be certified because of all the red-tape and cash involved to get a CARB EO number, but it's something to keep in mind. You can look up executive order #'s at carb's website, which I don't remember off hand. (I'd do a search for it, but... heh)

Roller rockers; 1.50's would be more legal than 1.52's, and I doubt 1.60's would pass.

Fuel injectors; get a set from a junkyard, and send 'em off to Rich Jensen at http://www.cruzinperformance.com . You could even get V8 injectors, have rich clean 'em, and put them in your car.

As to distributor, my "rebuild your distributor" and Karl's messages have been around for a while; if the Search starts working again, you should be able to find the messages. Replace the old module with either a stock AC Delco one or a high-performance Holley (#HLY-891-103) or Accel one. Avoid the ones from the local parts stores. You really shouldn't need a new distributor. There's no such thing as a high performance pick-up coil, they can't be made into a high-performance piece, so get an ACDelco one for $15.

Water pump- why? Is your old one shot? There's no high performance water pump available for us... and there's no guarantee you'll get a "perfect" rebuild. I had two rebuilds die on me until I got one that worked great.

Are you doing all this work yourself? If you are, just to pull the timing chain, you'll need a balancer puller, gear puller, gasket set, gasket scraper, and a torque wrench. Be careful when scraping the timing chain cover; it's aluminum, and gouges easily. I use Permatex Hi-Tack gasket sealant on the chain cover gaskets (engine side and water pump side); it's $3 at Pep Boys, comes in a silver can with a brush in the cap, and it's so sticky that it should be called Ultra-Super-Annoying-Hi-Tack!
