My uncle just adopted a 1989 Camaro RS, 2.8 V6 with a 5 speed, Is there an automatic lock in the trunk that closes by itself?? He has a trunk release button on the console, There is a piece missing in the trunk beneath the rear window, And his trunk don't close.......What's wrong??

It probably came with a power hatch..My power hatch assembly is broken, so I have to slam the trunk to close it because the latch gripper is all the way receded down.. Originally the power hatch worked like this..all you had to do was lay the trunk closed and basically the power assembly grabbed the little 'handle' on the underside of the hatch and pulled it down....

Have you ever thought about just brazing the assembly in place Nixon? Mine is broken and unless I can find someway to fix it (stupid GM) I'm just going to weld the two pieces together so it won't rattle around all the time.

Never really thought about that.. Good idea though...but I sold the car today. My heart sank as I watched it pull out of the driveway and take off down the street....whew..that was hard man...

Sorry to hear about that Nixon, I'm currently trying to decide on a truck to carry around all the musical equipment, or just bumming off the rest of the band and getting a 99 or 00 camaro 3.8 Hopefully there will be more 3rd gens in both of our futures.

Lol yeah..like I just mentioned in another post, down the road, I'm thinking a candy apple red or midnight blue Camaro with an LT1 and a 6 speed.... I'd like to see what the new 3.8 Camaros can do...I've never seen anyone really romp one of them before.....I bet they can really get up and go...I'm guesstimating 180-200 horses maybe? Wonder if they beat the Mustang 3.8's...now that's a real race right there.

Theres a guy in Mena that turbocharged his 96 ttop RS 3.8 Its reall peppy and can beat many of the v8's running around town. It looks sweet with the exception of the huge spoiler which was obviously meant for airplane use
