need help idle

my car has been giving me a bit of trouble latley. I started it up today. It turned over just fine but was only ideling about 600rpm. Then it slowly started to drop lower and lower untill its so low it stalls. I started it back up and held my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling and try and see if once it warmed up it would change. NO luck there. I tried this sevreal times and i had no luck. Later i went out started it up and it didnt seem like it was gona stall but the idle was still low. It only seems to do this sometimes such as today when it was raining. i cant figure out what the cause is but its pissing me off and making my bird unreliable. any help would be appreciated thanks alot.

Is there any HISS noise coming from your engine? Check your vacuum lines. I'd bet it's a vacuum leak. The rain thing is probably just an odd coincidence...nothing I can see that can be affected by it unless your air filter is on your freakin hood and getting drenched.

Also, what year/engine?

omg i cant belive i forgot that detail, sorry about that , yea it is a carb engine, should have mentioned that , it was just replaced six weeks ago with a brand new one. has run great since carb was installed besides a fuel line kink insident, but i know that its not a faulty carb .

Couple of choices.
One the choke pots and their hook ups (vacuum lines).
Distributor the rain can affect your situation.
MEANING ya have a weak ignition signal and rain is affecting it, too.

Last time ya played with cap & rotor is?

I am attempting to start my 85 carb'd Blazer now.
I know the feeling of starting a carb vehicle.
Last time I tried starting it, had ignition, smoke from engine (lots of stuff used to put back together so I expect smoke) & squeeling belts (I painted pullies and expect that noise, too). I let it die.
Then no start, just turning over.
Then flame outta carb.
I'm running an electric Carter fuel pump (4-6 lbs) so I KNOW I'm getting fuel! 3.4 blocks lack a mechanical fuel pump option!
Well, I'm off to blow up my truck, now
Good luck with yours.
I think weak spark is your problem.

ya carb engine can be a pain in the *** but when the run good i dont care what anyone says there more fun then any fuel injection. last time i did cap and rotar was april so its been almost a year . fuel pumps good i just had to test that when i had my fuel leak prob. so how do i go about checking vacum lines, i know how to check for a leak but its posible some of my lines my not be located in the correct place and i have no idea of which ones it could be it just have a feeling that the previous owner touched this motor and did somthing like that. its juns great usualy i just get this imprestion b/c theres a pencil plugging a line and no one can fig out were it goes to . The car came with the pencil when i bought it so it not that line this time i guess since its run great without that its location. Id love to do every vacum line over is this something i can do or would it be best to let someone with a bit of vertifaction fenagle with it incase they screw up im coverd?

give "gumout carb and choke cleaner" a try, my blazer used to do that only in the rain, id spray a good large amount of that in there and it ran great...and i mean if i doesnt work, your out like $.99 for the can of it...if it fixs it good

I'd still check simple plug wires, pop the cap & rotor just to "see".
Your hoses.
I just purchased a 1983 smog hose sticker for my Blazer. My Blazer is a 1985 Federal version.
For your ride I'd try a Chiltons book.
Open it at the parts store to see if that helps ya.
Going back to "stock" is a very good idea, UNLESS ya can rip it all off.
Right now, I just got my Blazer running. I have to seek what's wrong, but, I do have a hose road map to help me.
You need those answers, too.
Pencil blocking a hose?
FOR YEARS my EGR on my Blazer was plugged. Passed smog & everything, too!
Good luck find your vacuum hose road map & get going again! Check common sense electricals, too.

From Tim in Michigan
And a buddy in Indiana (minus the visual illustration part)
Rremember that one pic that was posted?
I bought that!
What I really seek
is the part number from my 1985 smog sticker & I can do a nationwide part search see if any more & then grab it, too.
But the one we saw, I bought, is a most beautiful item.
Meaning I've been awaiting since 1989 for that piece of paper.
How valuable it that item to me?
I'm not installing it on my ride, just using it & leaving in garage, yet, incase I need it for smog, I install the shroud.
I will install when I do my smog test onmy Blazer soon.
Now that Belle Blazing Bolts is running, it's teething pain time

You are misunderstanding

A S-10 Blazer TRUCK is DIFFERENT THAN a FBody PASSENGER car.
My Blazer HAS NO COMPUTER AT ALL
This sticker I got is for a S-SERIES VEHICLE

You seek the F-Body OR EVEN FOR A X BODY CITATION/SKYLARK/PHOENIX/OMEGA VEHICLES which is "same" as the F Body smog set up.
I FORGOT ALSO INCLUDED ARE CELEBRITY/CALALIERS/Etc.
Widen your search for those vehicles & I'll bet you Score!
Does my source have any more?
I think not.
Again, widen your search for the "X" body vehicle line & others I mentioned & I'll bet ya score!

When I hit yards soon for what I need smog wise for my truck, you can bet I'm scooping out the list of vehicles I just offered you.

WHY the smog little bits & pieces are the "same".

I hope I offered a helpful clue.

NOW when ya see it, how to remove it?
Bring lighter fluid and that softens the gummy back adhesive, then lay it IMMEDIATLY onto a piece of flat paper. Use a razor to remove it along with gentle firm lifting.
Best thoughts & happy hunting as I DO hope ya score.
EVEN IF ya can't find it in yards, look in want ads for people selling those vehicles.

Those smog stickers (of examples I offered) are on the shock towers and perhaps a pic from a digi camera will assist ya well. If the seller is willing to allow it. All ya need do is ask, they may be happy to help ya. Or really look weird at ya, who knows.
YET if that vehicle owner is really cute chick, who knows what this search may lead to?
PS What I will find in my local SoCal yards 99% will say only CA vehicles and they are completely different set ups. (I waited since 1989, that's patience!)
Especially during the early 80's.

Patience?
I waited about 20 plus years to finally find a number matching carb for my federal 1967 RS/SS Camaro (it was at the LAST vendor at a swap meet I attended). I waited about 12 years to find same vehicle remote mirror base gasket (a one year design mirror base gasket) & yes I paid dearly for that piece of rubber (mirror was only $12-gasket was $45+ shipping!!).
For my number matching carb for my Corvette? I awaited only 2-3 years as that market for parts is much more extensive.
YET out in CA (where I bought my federal 1974 Corvette) I bought the federal carb from a dealer back in PA I used to deal with when our family had old vettes in the 70's.

Be resourceful & think of the product line (engine wise) for parts to score from.
YOU WILL SUCCEDE!! Promise!
