lowering springs
i'm putting some eibachs on a bird we want a two inch drop but they don't have em listed for the v-6 do the ones for the v-8 work or are they too high

Solution, either cut the springs(NOT RECOMENDED) or settle for a 1" drop sprngs from suspension technologies that are specifically designed for the 82-92 V6.
EDIT:
They also make drop spindles(VERY GOOD WAY TO DROP) but they also cost close to $150 EA. and are from 1"-2" drop.

i posted that wrong earlier i wasnt thinking right the springs are going in my neighbors v6 not mine i have the eibachs on mine already cause i have the v8 he wanted to know if we could just order the same springs for his sorry about that i work at an ice rink and was out doing ice maintenance until 4:00 this morning and i had to be back here to open at 7:30 mind aint workin right

if i'm not mistaken they stopped making the beltech drop spindels for f-bodies. Suspension Techniques and Dropzone lowering springs will lower V6's 1.75" front and 1.5" rear. these can be found on ebay. I'm planning on getting either the sus tech or dropzones.

Last I saw Summit still carried the drop spindles, thats why I mentioned them.

I would prefer drop spindles to lower my car than springs. I can't find drop spindles anymore.
With lower springs, you need a camber correction kit for proper suspension geometry. The only v6 springs I know of are the Suspension Techniques ones in JCW, but those only drop the car 1.5 inches.
Redraif bought v8 eibach springs and it made her car extra high in the front, so she had to cut the springs.
I don't reccomend cutting springs because they weaken the strength of the springs and you may find yourself bottoming out more often if you do.

First off- there shouldn't be a sticky here on this- it should be on the suspension board.
Now to the suject of cutting springs-
A) It does not weaken them if you cut them. Cutting approx a half coil will increase spring rate between 5-10% based on initial spring rate and diameter. Cutting with a torch will weaken the spring temper- use a cutoff wheel.
B) What happens when you cut off a half coil or so is- the spring frequency will change (excellerate) and most stock to semi-performance shocks can not handle the faster rebound frequency of a cut spring. A good high rebound roadrace shock is needed to dampen it for a great ride.
C) Most people that cut springs usually are trying to cut the stock springs to lower the car. Stock springs, even with 5-10% higher spring rate from being cut, are still not stiff enough to run the car at a lower height without bottoming out. Then they retain the stock shocks with the higher frequency rebound and attain the famous- "Di-Dong Di-Dong Di-Dong".
D)Higher spring rates on lowered vehicles will limit suspension travel. Example- Lets say that stock you run a 550# front spring and stock suspension compression travel is 4 inches. Now you cut the sping and lower the car 2"- the spring is slightly stiffer but still suspension travel is about 3 1/2". Suspension travel combined with loswerd stance now puts you into 5 1/2" lower than stock ride height at full travel thus bottomoing out will occur.
Now you put, as I have, 800# springs up front with the car sitting about 2" lower than stock. My stiffer springs only allow for aprox. 1 1/2" to maybe 2" of travel max. In a hard compression I am traveling at most down to the 4" compressed travel the the stock suspension does. No bottoming out ever in 8+ years of driving this car. Not to stiff of a ride for the wife either (She uses it as her daily driver- Has another vehicle to use but loves to drive this.)

I -also- thought that BellTech (who makes Suspension Techniques) stopped making the drop spindles. Weird. Maybe some old stock is popping up in the supply houses?
I'm probably going with ST springs this summer, too. Didn't know about the Dropzone kit, thanks, 91FIREBIRDGT!
