3.4 swap.......chip and cam??

Hello,

I've decided to go ahead and do this 3.4 swap, I've read up on past posts and it looks pretty straight forward, I just have 2 questions:

1) Does anyone recomend a better cam for the 3.4 while still using the 2.8's computer......I've seen the specs on the Crane's 2030 at it seems pretty similiar to the stock specs of the 3.4.........I was just wondering if I can go with a bigger one without running into computer problems.

2) Would anyone who's done this swap recomend getting a custom chip (I was lookin at fastchips) to improve performance with the bigger displacement and larger injectors or could say a JET stage 2 work just as well........also if I did upgrade the cam could a custom chip fix any problems that I might run into with using the 2.8's computer.

I also plan on porting the heads and going with either 1.5, 1.52, or 1.6 roller rockers.......along with the intake, exhaust, and other various bolt-ons.....would that make a difference with my chip selection?

Thanks for the help

The 2.8l Chip will work fine with the 3.4l engine. Just still use the 3.4l injectors inplace of your 2.8l injectors on your intake.

The 2030 and stock 3.4l cam are very similer. However, on the s10 board I attend, they :hail: to the 2030 cam, and frown on the 3.4l cam for some reason. They claim the 2030 has more low end tourqe .

I belive the engines come with 1.5 rockers. 1.52 will work w/o changing valve covers. 1.6 rockers will need taller covers to clear them. Fieros are recommended. I have posted pics of mine, or you can copy link in siggy and see.

However, if you are going to add massive mods, I would recommend a new chip. However, most OTC chips are frowned in here, and for the price. I see why. Try and scout someone in your area to burn a chip for you. Equipment is tad expesive, but not unheard of.

I got a ported intake manifold on mine. And have 1.6 rollers w/ fiero valve covers too boot. Also have headers and a double roller timing chain on my 3.4 Its fun to run someone every once in a while. I sometimes win. But the chip idea is bad. Just get a custom burned chip. But why though...I let my better half drive and know she'll be safe in it. Just do what "we" say and you ll be happy.
