K&N air filter #

Anybody know the part # for the K&N filter that'll fit on the end of the throttle body of my 1992 3.1L? Before you say it, yes I've already searched the boards but couldn't find anything. I went to the K&N site and all they had specifically for my car was a replacement air filter for the airbox. They have universal cone filters that go directly on the throttle body, but I don't know the size of the opening so I don't know which one I need. I know a bunch of yall have K&N filters so anybody w/ a part #, that would help me out alot.

I have not seen that done before and I am 90% sure it can't be done considering you still have to mount the IAT sensor on it, and also it would be taking in a lot of hot air even if you did mount it there considering the radiator is right in front of it. Also I think space might also be an issue. I could be wrong, but as far as I have seen there is no such application for our cars.

i'm almost positive it'll fit on there fine. i got another question though. there's a small metal hose going into the rubber hose that leads into the throttle body, about 2 inches from the entrance to the t.b....what is this thing? also, when i put on the k&n what do i do w/ this piece?

I'm not exactly sure what that is offhand, I'm not at home right now to look it up in my Helm. But attached is a picture from my car with the SLP CAI of what I believe you are referring to.

yup that's exactly what i was talking about. there's no way for it to hook up to an aftermarket filter though so i dont have a clue what to do w/ it after i get the new filter.

It is a clean air feed into the crankcase for the PCV system. Will also blow crankcase fumes into the intake whenever the engine is under heavy load.

Can put a breather (filtered) over it, but may not pass a smog check.

Looks like a mini air cleaner. See this part number at Summit: CCA-VH031, it is a stand but the pic shows a breather too.

Don't remember the part #, but a 3" ID fitting for a filter worked perfect for mine. The TB is oval shaped. Little over 3" by about 2 1/2". I can get the part # when I get home.

The only problem with mine is it's 8" long and because of the radiator hose that is right under the TB, the filter is pushed up into the bottom of the hood, when closed. So I just got some PVC and routed it over into the fender well.

Sucks better than a $5 hooker.

yeah the link worked...searched for the part # but didn't find it...i guess i can find out by lookin at my own car, but any idea what diameter breather i'll need to get?

DaGoat -- you're talkin about the part # for the k&n filter, not the breather, right? i guess i don't need the part # cause i won't get an 8" cone, but if you find out the diameter of the TB opening that'd be great

Got it. It's 2 3/4 by 3 1/4. Like I said a rubber 3" ID conical filter should work perfect. I know it did on my 3.1. Good luck

You sure you want to do that? It might look sharp and cool and all, but you'll be sucking hot air into your engine. A cold air intake would be much better.

I've already changed my mind. Earlier today i bought tubing and I'm just waiting for my filter to get here and I'll have it set up. If you wanna see a pic of what it'll look like (minus the filter), click on the link and go to the second page.

I'm keeping the stock rubber flex tubing that runs from the throttle body, and having tubing going straight down between the engine block and the front of the car, and the filter will be down about 5in. from the road. Nice cool air, and plenty of it.

I had thought about doing a RAM air setup, but with the ground effects being so low, I think that if I had a scoop up under it, it'd scrape alot.

Rain would be a problem if I had RAM air setup, but I don't think there will be a problem with running the tubing down in front of the engine block. If the filter was near the wheels then when it rained, the tires would spray water up onto the filter. But it will be right in the middle of the car not near the tires, and will be protected from rocks/rain/all that by that air dam (I think that's what it is) that hangs down about 3 inches above the road. And hey, if I have a problem with water sprayin onto the filter, the pipes I got have swivel joint, so I can always just position the filter up a little higher.
