Someone Help Me Get This $(!@#% Car Started
this is my first post so Hi Everyone!
I've owned 3 3rd gen f-bodys but all were v8, this one is a v6 91 (don't know anything about them) and it wont start! It was running when i bought it, it would ocasionally stall when coming to a stop but not often. then I went to start it up and it started..... ran... and died. it would start up and I could keep it running by giving it gas but the second you let off the gas, it would totally die.
Now....it will turn over and over and over but wont crank
Anybody got any ideas? I've checked all the plugs and wires and sensors (checked as in made sure they were connected) and I've replaced the throttle position sensor. It's got a new battery. When it's turning over after a few times it's got a gas-ish kinda smell so I am perdy sure it's getting fuel, I hear the pump running and the car HAS gas.
blah blah blah....
anyone have any idea what could have happened?
I'd appreciate any suggestions!
This car is driving me crazy!!
Thanks
Michael

Sounds like your not getting a spark. To check it you need to take off one of your spark plug wires and place a paper clip in the boot. Now have someone turn over the engine and hold the boot towards the exposed spark plug. What kind of spark are you getting? A bright white or orange spark or no spark at all.

Welcome to the board, Michael!
Your TPS should be self adjusting since it's a 90-92 3.1 V6, don't see a problem there. As to a major tuneup, YES, it's a very good idea, here's a link: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=162251
If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, one that's meant for port fuel injection (gauge goes to 80 PSI), throw it on there. If pressure's good, you completely eliminate the fuel system from being a problem.
Your IAC pintle and passageway might be gunked with carbon. It only stalls if you don't step on the gas? Does it improve if you get the motor warm? Oh hell, did a search, my cleaning message is gone. I'll post a new one... okay, it's posted, either read it from our v6 forum, or click this link: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=175177
Some funny questions: Did you check the spark plug gaps? Did you pull the plugs after attempting to start it; if so, were they wet with fuel? And finally, was the car sitting for a very long time? If so, I wonder as to the age of the gasoline; it might be dead, and unable to combust.
[edit] Oh, that figures. Found the original message: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=86115
