Depending where you live you wouldn't pass inspection.

Are we talking your stock cat? You'll see a small performance gain with it because your stock cat was probably old and not flowing decently. Sound volume should go up quite a bit. My buddy has a Fiero with a deleted cat and the sucker is loud as hell.

Having a straight pipe will only give a couple of HP gain over a new High Flow catalytic converter at the most. You will pick up some power swapping out your old factory one, though.

The best advice I can give you is to buy a high flow cat and put it in place of the factory one. That way, you get the HP gain and it is legal, which can be a big deal depending on where you live. It can also be a big deal if you ever try to sell the car. It will cost a little more, but I think that it is worth the money.

I think that you can get a Catco 2.5 inch inlet/outlet converter for about 100 dollars or maybe even less. That is what I have in my car, and the whole thing is about a foot long. It also weighs a lot less than the factory one.

You'll gain some top end power and add rpm range. Stock cats flow fine until about 3500-4000rpm's

Like I said in my above post, there is no way I would advise you to put a straight pipe in there. It won't be smog legal, and you may have to fix it if you ever try to sell the car, depends on the laws in your state. It also won't gain you any noticeable HP over a good high flow catalytic converter. Just for the sake of knowing it is legal, you should put the cat in there. Get another Y pipe made, get a high flow 2.5 inch cat, and a catback exhaust system, and you will have a great exhaust for the V6.
