Welcome to the boards. A properly tuned 2.8 or 3.1 liter V6 will average around 18-20 MPG city driving, and about 25-27 on the highway. Mine always averaged out to be around 20 or so depending on how I drove it. One time I saw 28 MPG. (the whole tank was mostly highway, and I babied it just to see what I would get.) but that's about what you can expect to see.

welcoe to the boards...I tend to pull around mid 20's when i'm tkaing trips from school to home....3 hours at 70-80 mph the entire time. Around 25 is a decent estimate i'd say.

AVG = about 25 mpg
Best = 31 mpg...all freeway miles on an entire tank between L.A. and Pheonix @ 75 mph.

I drive mostly city and I would say I get 18.5 mpg. And that's with a car that isn't running quite right, and I rev it up to 4000 before I shift all the time.

what are some things to help improve mileage besides a general tune up and checking tire pressures? i dont have a working odometer so i cant calculate my true mpg but it feels like my gas doesnt last as long as it should be.

Here's the deal with my little 3.1:
-I fill it all the way up till it cant be filled no more, and wait till it gets to a quarter tank before refilling (I heard it helps your fuel pump) When doing this around town with a 15 gallon tank, I get roughly 125 miles to the 3/4 tank. When I ran it into the E, I'd go roughly 180 before fillups, I guess you could say I get like 13 around town??? But on the highway, the gas guage doesnt move. Today I noticed that at 56 miles of straight highway driving the needle barely moved. Its good on gas, I like these engines.

since my rebuild and my jacobs pro street energy pak and ultra coil, along with my hooker headers, i got 34 mpg on a 170 mile drive i use to get 25-28 on the free way but it has gone up alot..

Slim, you don't need to know how big your tank is..likely it is 60.2L. To get your mileage, fill up your tank, write down your odom reading (or reset trip odom), and then next time you fill up, save the receipt. Use the litres it took to fill the tank again to calculate.
as an example:
(307.2km/45.249L)*(3.785L/1G)*(1M/1.609km)= 24.04M/G
which is what my car gets now.
