any difference between v6 and v8 rear ends?
i was curious about this... would the v8 cars get stronger components in the rear end/driveshaft?

No strength differences... the V6s generally got 'better' gearing tho (2.8s came with 3.42s, where your average 305 got a 2.73)

The lower control arms. Or whatever bar that goes from body to the axle is different. Or so gm part numbers suggest that.
I read somewhere the coil springs are different too.

thanks alot for replying guys..... so would it mean that if i were to swap in some sort of v8 (this is far in the future, but the rear end question just bothered me alot) it wouldnt chew up and spit out the rear? also, does that mean that my 3.1 has 3.42's? once again, thanks alot guys

if you swap in a v8 engine, you're not going to experience any issues with the rear unless it's already broken or the teeth or about to split anyway. The only main issue you'll have is traction, cause u still won't have a posi-locking rear. My bud's LS1 3rd gen is still running a six cylinder w/ 3.23's out back, and the nittos help it grab a little, but still it'll do a wonderous one leg burnout. lol.

heres the scoop
V8 cars typically had 2.73 open rears
V6 was 3.23 auto 3.42 stick
both were 7.5 inch 10 bolt rears
torque arms are the exact same
rear springs in LG4 sport coupe cars and V6 Fbodys are same
front ones are different due to 2 more cylinders

Gm's site says torque arm, panhard, and lower control arms are different. I dunno why, but they are different part #'s.

1991teal....L69's came with 3.73's stock??? Damn...I thought it was like 3.42. My buddy was always bragging about having his 3.73 rear in since he broke his last POSI rear doing donuts and reverse 180's.... He had an L69 84 T/A.

wow.... i like the 3.23, can spin em both!
looking to upgrade to 3.73 or even 4.10's
but in there near future there is a v8 swap
so have to decide which i would like better behind the v8
