Hey those pictures look just like mine! Have you decided on installing them on your car? I think I need to do a little work to them before they even touch my car. I found a webpage about some things about making custom headers. And it looks as though CHC forgot a lot of these.... check it out

Hope you realize that those are not smog legal for Calif even though they have the EGR provisions- the need a calif smog E.O.# and that costs a few thousand dollars- Hopefully you have a hookup on smogging your car illegally.

Is your name Dale by any chance? I believe you had e-mailed me like a month or so ago about the headers. My name is Mark. I e-mailed you the pictures that you had posted earlier on in the post. Those are the C_H_C headers.

Attached is another picture that I have... it shows the poor craftsmanship on these... I will have to do some custom work of my own to fix these before they ever TOUCH my car...

Edit: That is the EGR hookup by the way...

Don't like 'em? Plunk the $315 for the other guy's set.

Well gee, thanks for your help! I already considered buying another set, but I am going to see if I can make a decent set out of the ones I already have.

lol, that's the spirit! Seriously, you guys can't expect perfect worksmanship from $150 headers. I'd say buy them figuring on 'modifying' them to work properly.

On the 'headers' note, has anyone tried the Pacesetter 3.4 4th gen Headers?

LOL

They sure look like the CHC's to me.............

and YES i did pay the $150 for them

and YES i was one of the FIRST to get them

upon receipt we noticed several small holes we then patched
we then lifted the car and started the install

wait did i forget to mention that they

A. the driver side did not clear the body from above or below
B. after a few clever WHACKS for clearance the bolts did not line
up

it's true you know............
you do get what you pay for!!!!

But it's all good
I had a shop custom fab me a set along with the Y-pipe for 600 with install and warranty

So I still have the CHC's sitting on my shelf If anyone's intrested

I heard that they are too long and run into the firewall if I remember correctly... I know it is not that easy because we would have all taken that path by now...

After reading the post from confucius101 I am totally thinking about ditching these CHC headers and saving up for a set of those other headers. They look 200% better anyway....

Yah, but one of the fastest V6 guys here (even though he's not here anymore....3.1Firebird) fabbed the Pacesetters to work. He heated them up and bent the tube a little.

I did a search here and couldn't turn up anything with his username. If all that is involved is simply heating them up and doing some bending perhaps that's the route I will take instead. How much are the Pacesetters and where can I find them?

Saved, for all these years, from February 15, 2001, in case I needed it:

------------------------------------------------
How to make Pacesetter 3.4 headers fit a 2.8/3.1
------------------------------------------------
message written up by 3.1Firebird, 2/15/2001
------------------------------------------------

First let me say you need someone experienced with a torch to help you. Modify these headers at your own risk!!
I recomend Fel-Pro manifold gaskets at $8. The pacesetter gaskets suck! The headers bolt onto the heads perfectly, its just the thirdgens frame that gets in the way! Follow these steps and you can have headers on your car. And dont forget to get bolts for your headers, 8mm regualar pitch, 15-20mm long, not for sure. And get washers to.

1. Buy 3.4 pacesetter headers for 93-93 camaros/firebrd.170 dollars.

2. Take exhaust manifolds off your car, so you can test fit the headers, because you will have to bend them to fit.

3. There are two coolant lines made out of steel on the passenger side, these two lines run to the heater core. You have to take a hammer and bang them towards the fender so the headers fit in. Also there is a Bracket on the driver side, that bolts onto the Power sterring and old exhaust manifold. These will not be used with the headers.

4. TEst fit driver side header.Put the driver side header in a vice around its flange. Heat the 3 pipes about halfway between the collector and the flange until its glows a dull pink. Now use a pry bar in the collector and bend the headers to the right( if you are standing next to the driver side fender and looking at the header installed on the head, it will look like your bending the header towards the rear of the car). Let the header cool, then test fit it. Repeat until it clears the cross member. Use Fel Pro gaskets. This side is pretty easy to do.

5. now you need to do the passenger side header, put in vice, etc. I cant remember which way this needed to be bent, but I think it hits the firewall, so it needs to be bent down some, and then maybe to the left or right a little bit. Use Fel Pro gaskets. This side is somewhat tricky.

6.Plug driver side O2 sensor bung. Screw O2 sensor into passenger side bung on #5 cylinder.

7. Drive open headered to exhaust shop and have y-pipe made. about 100 dollars.

7A. have AIR pump tubes welded into headers while getting y-pipe made, so your Air pump is functional.30 dollars.

7B. The O2 sensor bung on the headers are on headers pipes 5 and 6, thus since the #6 bung is plugged because it is not used, the O2 sensor only reads from #5.You may want to have an O2 sensor bung welded into the collector, so instead of reading only one cylinder it reads all 3. You may want a heated O2 sensor just in case the sensor doesnt get hot enough because it is locate further downstream.

And damn, those welds look brutal. He should've just left the headers in pieces, and sold them as a "weld them yourself" kind of kit.

:sillylol: true true.
I've seen some bad welding in school but that takes the cake, I wonder if exhaust leaks were even on CHC's mind :sillylol:

You know, after ALL those header posts, I stayed out of it, but compare those booger welded pieces of pony loaf C-H-C was whining that nobody would buy to the ones offered by the guy in Michigan and there is no comparison. Quality costs money, $315 bucks is the price for the quality!

Agood2.8, you said it best!

since where talking cnc headers
oh dont get me started! im not mad about the craftsmenship nore the cpappy collectors. but atleast he could have tried to make the headers so they would fit the car. they lined up on the head but they didnt fit on the car. the driver side hit the firewall and i didnt fell like banging six inches away. and the passenger was to wide hardly fit between the head and the wheel well. and the egr was at a angle that it would no even be close to the original position. so i got some new wall art and some cool painted manifolds on my car

I agree with Eric... plus, take a look at the price for a quality set of stainless steel v8 headers... the price is pretty close to those custom v6 sets. Besides, hell, if you buy them in stainless, you never ever have to worry about them rusting through and having to buy another pair!!

Unless you get normal steel and send them out to get ceramic coated...

Should you get the CHC headers??? Unless you want to decorate your house with car parts, I would suggest otherwise. As for getting a set of those other ones offered here on the board, no what's something worth considering! They even offer a y-pipe!
