Yes, the 3.1 can hold 3.4 heads. No, the 3.4 headers won't work. Why? They bolt with the motor just fine..hell, they'll bolt to the 2.8 or 3.1 heads! BUT, there's no clearance. They run into the firewall.

How to make Pacesetter 3.4 headers fit a 2.8/3.1

First let me say you need someone experienced with a torch to help you. Modify these headers at your own risk!!
I recomend Fel-Pro manifold gaskets at $8. The pacesetter gaskets suck! The headers bolt onto the heads perfectly, its just the thirdgens frame that gets in the way! Follow these steps and you can have headers on your car. And dont forget to get bolts for your headers, 8mm regualar pitch, 15-20mm long, not for sure. And get washers to.

1. Buy 3.4 pacesetter headers for 93-93 camaros/firebrd.170 dollars.

2. Take exhaust manifolds off your car, so you can test fit the headers, because you will have to bend them to fit.

3. There are two coolant lines made out of steel on the passenger side, these two lines run to the heater core. You have to take a hammer and bang them towards the fender so the headers fit in. Also there is a Bracket on the driver side, that bolts onto the Power sterring and old exhaust manifold. These will not be used with the headers.

4. TEst fit driver side header.Put the driver side header in a vice around its flange. Heat the 3 pipes about halfway between the collector and the flange until its glows a dull pink. Now use a pry bar in the collector and bend the headers to the right( if you are standing next to the driver side fender and looking at the header installed on the head, it will look like your bending the header towards the rear of the car). Let the header cool, then test fit it. Repeat until it clears the cross member. Use Fel Pro gaskets. This side is pretty easy to do.

5. now you need to do the passenger side header, put in vice, etc. I cant remember which way this needed to be bent, but I think it hits the firewall, so it needs to be bent down some, and then maybe to the left or right a little bit. Use Fel Pro gaskets. This side is somewhat tricky.

6.Plug driver side O2 sensor bung. Screw O2 sensor into passenger side bung on #5 cylinder.

7. Drive open headered to exhaust shop and have y-pipe made. about 100 dollars.

7A. have AIR pump tubes welded into headers while getting y-pipe made, so your Air pump is functional.30 dollars.

7B. The O2 sensor bung on the headers are on headers pipes 5 and 6, thus since the #6 bung is plugged because it is not used, the O2 sensor only reads from #5.You may want to have an O2 sensor bung welded into the collector, so instead of reading only one cylinder it reads all 3. You may want a heated O2 sensor just in case the sensor doesnt get hot enough because it is locate further downstream.

I would think ANY headers would give it a better sound than factory! But on these cars, you have precious few choices in headers-all of which truly suck. If you want to mess with the tone...do it through the muffler and piping....

IF ya want a solid 10-15HP gain & ya got a healthy engine
Do this.
Ask Muffler shop to build you a 2 1/2" Pipe set up, make it smog legal, go have fun.
Good investment.
Ain't no smog legal headers for our cars.
Who is this Pacesetter?
Anyone have a link to them?

Greg at PF&E called me earlier this week and said he's shipping me my headers this friday . He had to wait on getting his car out of the body shop (be there for awhile) so he could fab the y-pipe, Its at the ceramic coaters' now and will be shipped with the headers (headers have been finished for awhile- also coated) I post pics when they arrive. I have waited years for these- was about to give up hope for hot rodding this motor- I now will have a rare V6 with custom race headers for a lowered car- unlike the Hookers & Hedmans that need to route straight back offering no ground clearance at all.

I have contacts- didn't want to go this route, but with the cost of the frikin E.O. numbers- Its my only option to build a powerful 60*v6.

If things change and I lose contacts for whatever reason, then I'll have to play the swap game every two years.
