STOCK Throttle return spring on V6

I have a stock 1984 2.8L V6 firebird. I have been having idle issues with it since I have bought the car. Pontiac doesnt know a thing about what throttle return spring belongs on the stock carb. The two shops I went to put on quite tight springs. I need to know, how tight should the springs be? Or if anyone has pics of their V6 throttle return springs, so I can see how streched they should be at rest, PLEASE post them!

I dont like feeling like I am pressing down on an unopened bottle of soda....Unless that is how stiff it should be...which case maybe it's time to look into EFI.

Thanks!

PS Yes I posted this as well in the Carb forum, howerver with this being a V6, I usually don't have much luck with that forum.

The throttle return spring should not be super tight. At rest it should be a little stretched out. Check in the Help section of AutoZone for a replacement if yours is too tight. They have some stock replacements there.

Thanks Ill check autozone then. All Kragen's has are generic throttle retun springs and pontic had one spring listed for all engines ever used in the firebird....

The spring off of my 82 t/as 305 was the same as the spring off my friends 84 2.8 .. both carbed. Both not too snug and not too loose

Whenever mine broke I replaced it with a return spring from Summit. (I wanted a red one). It is stiffer than the stock spring but not by that much.
