Doin' the 3.4L swap, with a brand new SDPC crate....suggestions?

Hey all. I've been reading, and thinking, and reading more and thinking more, and have finally come to the conclusion that I would love to do the 3.4 swap. Now, here's the one I'm looking at:
http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...id=120&pid=116

But I was thinking...why doesn't the 4.3L fit in ours? Also, I have quite the concern when it comes to doing the wiring in general for whichever I would choose to do. Is there any sort of tech. manual or thread with everything in one place? I've used the search, but haven't quite found out everything I need to know.

Thanks guys.

3.8l-4.3l is a 90deg block, where 2.8-3.4l is 60deg block. Major difference.

No one that anyone on this site knows has installed a 90deg v6 into a f-body. If thats what you want, I'm sure we will try and help you thru it.

You want simple install, stick with the 3.4l.

3.8 is too "tall/wide". The heads hit the strut towers. Different heads had to be used on the '89 Turbo Trans Am; I think the thirdgen.org FAQ sheet (off the thirdgen.org main page in the technical articles section) says the heads were from a 3.3 FWD?

And since the trans also has to be changed becuase the bellhousing's have different bolt patterns/sizes, it's a hell of a project that doesn't make too much sense when you consider that a v8 would also fit, probably for less work, and you'd get more power.

I think I'll just stick with the normal 60* swap. I really wont have the cash for the bigger eng. anyway. I'm plannign on getting the rest of the cash between now and nov. and doing the swap over winter, when the car's off the insurance anyway.
Thanks!

Edit: I can always stroke it and what not, if I want the displacement (correct word?) right?

A 3.4l is bored, and stroked as far as this engine design can safely hold.

2.8= 3.5 bore, 3.00 stroke
3.1= 3.5 bore, 3.31 stroke
3.4= 3.62 bore, 3.31 stroke

Johnstown...
Dried UP from the Flood yet?
GO do a search or look for tech of my 2.8->3.4 long block swap boogie.
The part search for you is simple.
Go to wrecking yard & obtain ANY 3.4 powered vehicle Fuel Injectors.
I am NOT SURE of the pressure rating
YET
the 3.4 FI head looks just like the home shower head!
REST OF STUFF...
You're gonna be getting the proper auto flywheel with purchase.
AWAIT THE STREET LEGAL 3.4 HEADERS FROM PACESETTER!
Check out the other threads about that topic.
Just add the ORIGINAL VEHICLE YEAR AND ORIGINAL ENGINE SIZE complete engine rebuild kit from Fel Pro.
Start swapping original year intake induction/ignition system stuff to new 3.4 long block stuff!
Detailed yes, that simple, yep!
OVER 40 + who Boogied & Swapped, I believe, by now.
You'll be the first to start with a new 3.4 long block from GM.
Envious & happy for ya.
Not a wrong decision at all!
Read the swap thread, then go to your car, then go inside re-read the thread again...
Yes the 1995 3.4 into a 1985 using the 2.8 stuff.
Just passed CA smog.
One reading was ZERO, it runs go damn great!
Worth every bit of effort.
Await street legal headers from Pacesetter!
NO REGRETS!
How is your tranny, be prepared to rebuild it!
200 Foot Pounds & a heavy right foot does wonders to marginal trannys!

KED85...you just managed to confuse the hell outta me. I'm trying to rererererereread your post right now though. Do you think I should just buy the block, pistons, rings, ah hell with listing, let's say, bottom end, and then pratically use my top end, except with injectors off a 3.4L?

The transmission thing isnt a worry. I have two right here, a T5 and a 700R4.

Like I said, this project wont even start to take for until winter, but I would like to keep this thread alive, as I do have quite a few questions (though at 4:20AM, it's hard to think of what they were).

I'll be posting more tomorrow...
