never put a transmission in after it rains...
Well it rained yesterday and I replaced the rear main seal (had a huge oil leak) yesterday. Put a new flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, the works. Got the pressure plate and clutch on today. So i thought screw it, lets get this done tonight.
So I bring my garage lamp under the car and get the transmission seated on my stomach. I start lifting and playing with this behemoth and I keep hearing this buzzing sound. I look to my light and there is an army of ants, gnats and mosquitoes and then I feel something biting my back.
I wanted to jump up but I had a 80 lb transmission sitting on me.
So I tried to carefully roll it off me and set it down (This is while biting my lip because the damn stings hurt so bad) and got the hell out of there and hosed myself off. So not only did I not get anything done, my back looks like sandpaper from all the ants and my hands hurt from holding up the transmission.
I came back outside with two cans of raid and got some revenge, but damn I was cursing a storm at the transmission. Man I hate lining those things up.
Just thought i'd share

it's not real wrenching if you don't get hurt.
I feel your pain ( or did, sort of w/the tranny) when my bro eploded the clutch disc on my 77 T/A. nothing but a metal fin left. tranny in & out 4 times to get it right & aligned

Yea, i went back outside and finsihed the job after housing the driveway pretty good. I figured i was already dirty so hell with it. Anyways that T5 is a ***** to line up. I even had moved the clutch and had to start all over. Second time I kept moving the throw out bearing. I finally got it, I had to do it sideways, I had my feet at the passenger door and my head under the driver's side floor and lifted that mongrol up and went as slowly as I could and it clicked right in.
I just got done bolting it up, I hate and I cannot stress this enough, HATE that upper right passenger side bolt that goes on the transmission. Its such a pain to reach even with my extensions, I have cut and bruised hands now. Anyways, tomorrow i'll tackle the tourque arm (sigh.... I didn't take mine off from the differential, so I have to pull it down and snap it on the transmission while holding it to bolt in), oh boy, what a day.
Anyways all my work is done, got the new harness in (minus one plug, somebody read my post and help
) changed the battery cables, new flywheel, new rear main seal, new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, painted my headlight pockets. Well tomorrow will be fun, i can finally drive my car.
Quick question, anyone know if it is safe to use Dextron III ATF on the transmission, the transmission says DEXTRON II but I asked the shops around here and they say they don't make it anymore....ANyone? Thanks.

Man I could go for a nice plasma cutter... everyone heard about my fight with the lower control arm bolt and told me "well you have a welder, just cut it off!" Yeah well MIG can only weld together... not cut apart... a plasma cutter would really help on my 1/4 panel replacement. Time to go visit eBay! Hell what would the shipping on somtehing like that be? LOL!
Haha, okay, screw that, upwards of $1000.
And why do they all have built-in air compressors? I'd rather use my own air compressor and save a few bux or get a better-built cutter. (sigh)
