T-shifter recommendation....
What is a good replacement for my standard push button shifter ****.I know the B&Ms are high but what other choices make a good compromise?I am looking for a good "no-play but good fit" shifter.

I have the B&M and love it... installed it back in '97. Had to replace the shifter cable last year, other then that, no problems. You can see it in the corner of this picture (from when I replaced my ignition cylinder)...

Got it from http://www.summitracing.com (before they had a website up), I think I paid $160 for it. Came complete with everything -except- a relay, from Radio Shack, that they give the part number for. The relay is easy to wire in; they give a wiring diagram and everything. It allows for proper "replacement" of the factory shifter's park/neutral shift, and drops the engine's rpm's when the shifter's in park or neutral. You can either dig the part number up through summit's online catalog or find info on it at http://www.bmracing.com .
Since I have an 85-up Firebird I had to cut the console top with a cutting knife on an electric soldering gun. 82-84 Firebirds and 82-92 Camaros have the "hex-head'ed" console cap, and the shifter bolts right into the console. The shift plate fit exactly between the bottom of my ashtray button and the top of my window switches. (I don't have a power side mirror, don't know how it affects that.)
Hardest part was adjusting the shift linkage. That was "physically annoying" because it basically goes like this: Put shifter in gear. Get out of car. Crawl under car. Put tranny's shift lever into the corresponding gear. Align the cable. Get out from underneath car. Get into car. Put shifter into next gear. Repeat for all gears. Then repeat it again for all gears. And if you really want no problems, repeat it a Third time.
That's the problem most people have when they complain about the shifter; basically, they didn't follow the instructions.

The shifter came with a temp plate. I basically had to cut out around the shifter indicator and some on the oppisite side. I also had to drill holes to mount a bracket (Included with the shifter) for the rear of the shifter to mount to.
