Throttle body rebuild help

I need to rebuild my throttle body, I think. When I give the car gas, it sounds like I have a vacuum leak. My step dad thinks it is a bad gasket, does anybody know anything about this? Please help, my car is running like sh**.

Check all the thin black plastic vaccuum lines for crack; you can fix them by using windshield wiper hose as a "splice", or just buy all the fittings to change everything over to hoses, or just buy a roll of new plastic vacuum line and replace them all.

As to rebuilding the throttle body, FelPro probably makes a kit (Call your local "real" auto parts store, not a pep boys or autozone, you want where the real mechanics go for parts) for it. If not, you can buy a roll of thin black gasket material and an X-acto knife, and cut your own replacements.

I don't have the plastic vacuum lines anymore, they're all rubber. And I don't see any cracks or messed up sections. Is there a possibility I have a line crossed or something? I'll try to find a gasket kit tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

With the car idling (in Park or Neutral with the E Brake ON!!) pop the hood and listen for a hissing sound. That'll generally mean you have a nice little vacuum leak. If you hear any hissing, then take some carb cleaner or the like, and spray it around, anywhere you think it might be leaking. When the car's idle speeds up, you've found the leak!

I have done that and all of the hissing is around the throttle body and usually only does it when I get on the gas.

if you squirt carb cleaner around the TB, does the idle speed up? The air will hiss some, as it is sucked around the throttle blades... if the idle doesn't speed up, you don't have a vacuum leak.
