I saw that plug myself after I yanked the 2.8.

You can't use that for an oil return - your oil return line needs to be 5/8" or bigger, or you'll force oil past the turbo's seals.

The exhaust routing is pretty straightforward - down, around, and up! lol Search for the 'Turbo Chronicles' thread I did, and you'll see how I went with the piping.

As far as the bin goes, that I can't really comment on, since I'm still working with the tuning on it

It's just a stock 302a ecu bin file, for a 2.8.

I thought that you had funstick tune it before you had the turbo put on. I have basically the same set up that you have, but with a 3.1L. same cam, RR.. etc.

Man. I am trying to read through the turbo chronicles, but there is lots of information that is BS running through it! seems that half the article is on other stuff.

Not really a tune... more of a rough ballpark - It's set up for 19pph injectors, and I ended up getting 22pph, instead - and the timing retard is coming in a bit early, and killing my upper end performance, N/A... As soon as I get the new 3.1 up, I'm going to get some WinALDL scans, and go from there.

My current combo is -
3.1L
278º/288º total - 204º/214º @ .050" - .422"/.444" (spec'd it!) 107º/117º centerline
Stock rockers (later going to 1.6 Roller Rockers)
No cat
22pph injectors
The rest is mainly stock.

I'm going to get it tuned, N/A, then the turbo should be ready, bolt it back in place, and start tuning it with the added airflow

And yeah, I know what you mean about wading through the Chronicles.

Do you have any pics of the completed piping? When you went to the larger injectors, did you see that you were running very rich? I tried putting in 19PPH injectors and my car ran like crap! I could idle ok, but it would sputter like crazy if I accelerated at all.

I did have one pic, I believe in this thread, as a matter of fact.

You can't just throw bigger injectors in.

What's what makes this so complicated - you have to have a million things all at once, done right, or nothing works.

guess what I just found at the local bone yard? I complete turbo set up from a 1985 Mercedes Benz 300D. it says Air Research on the side.. has the wastegate and BOV, also found an intercooler on a 900 turbo SAAB.. get em both for about 80 bucks! The MB is an inline 3 liter (looks like 5 cylinders if that makes sense), but it has all the hardware still attached..any idea what size or which turbo this is?

Ok.. I think that this is a K26 turbo, but I'm not sure what the stats are for this. Does anyone know?

too bad thats a turbo for a diesel engine.

You would need a turbo off of a 6 liter diesel engine to be about the right size for a 3 liter gas engine. This is because diesel engines dont rev high, so they need smaller turbos than gas engines.

Sure that turbo will work on your car, but you will probably encounter really really high backpressure at anything over 4000rpm and spin the turbo way past its effeciency range causing the compressor to become basically a hot air pump.

EDIT: the compressor side should be fine for our engines, its the turbine side that is going to be wrong. It probably has a very small turbine side so it will spin up at low RPM's (diesel) a KKK26 off of a Porsche 944T/951 would have better suited your needs.

Sorry Doward for hi jacking your thread. I really need info on how you installed yours though. I wrote about what I plan on doing in the K26 thread. Lee/vortex and Doward would you mind looking through that for me?

Project 'Boosted Stock & Born to Rock' dead? Never!!

Working on a custom ceramic coated 3" downpipe currently... and still need to send those 22pph injectors in to have them blueprinted.

Everything's already set. We already boosted the 2.8. Now, we're just going through, getting rid of the kinks we're finding, and slowly working her over... patience!

Yep.. this project has just gone through so many 400 post threads... and this one, like others, died a miserable death during a lull in activity... may it rest in peace.
