alternator question

alternator question

my camaros an 85, what other years did they use the same alt. set up??

Take off the pulley and then you can say fits 82-92 Camaro/Firebird.

Not TOTALLY correct!
The 1985 & above alternator KICKS out lots of juice due to engine electronic demand.
The alternator usage for a 1982-84 is way lower in juice output.
You can fry your electrical system if ya use an alternator putting out to much juice.
My 1985 altern. kicked out a high voltage spike that was killing my ECMs. I went thru six ECMs before I discovered the alternator was bad. Car would be driving then all sudden it died.

Yep! My old parts car (84 2.8) had an alternator rated for 67 amps- with air conditioning. 85-86 (not sure 87-92) is something like 105 amps. And some more info; the alternator is only used from 85-86. 87-92 uses a smaller case that fits into the serpentine belt tensioner bracket.
