Ran my car at the track...

yup, first trip to the track, ever.. i ran a 17.309 at best @ 74mph.. little slow isnt it? but my tranny wont shift into 3rd properly ,so that could shave it to 16.99 maybe, anyways i had a blast even if i did get smoked by a civic...lol my rt were .995,.996 and .775, 60' of about 2.485

edit...

my motor is an 87 2.8l with new main and connecting rod bearings. top end has about 200,000kms on it so like 120,000miles.
the only thing done is the airbox is gutted and i have a dynomax catback, when i ran at the track iw as throwing the code for o2 sensor, egr valve and VSS. in the process of getting those fixed.

I think he ripped those wheels off his civic after he blew it up trying to beat a V6 Camaro.

Is that dude wearing a helmet? I you lost to him

If you want, I can do some more scanning & put up the troubleshooting pages for the codes on the cardoman site.

Congrats on the run!! What's wrong with the 3rd gear? It won't upshift at wide open throttle? If so, I hate to tell ya this, but the only way to fix that is to rebuild the trans...

And yeah, at Englishtown Raceway Park, -anybody- that races needs to wear a helmet... either the guy was BS'ing me when he told me it was a New Jersey law, or it's just the racetrack's own law. Either way, hell, I don't care; it was a good excuse to buy the $65 JC Whitney helmet to match the color of my car

Codes on http://www.cardomain.com/id/projeknatedog page 5, including:

Cold Start Valve
Code 13
Code 24
Code 32
Code 54

All of these are from the Firebird Service Manual, & for an 85 Firebird.

I know the feeling about the tranny. My car won't go to 3rd at all at WOT. Is it safe to be going 75+ in second? What are the approx. RPM's I'm turning at that speed since I don't have a tach?

This is getting to be a hot topic, maybe the mods should start a stick post for track run times. One long thread that everyone can read and compare numbers, instead of 100+ small one to sift through???

mine wouldn't go into 3rd at wide open throttle but, once i put the 4.10s in...i had to figure out how to fix it. all it took was a minor adjustment on the tv cable, right next to the throttle body. works great now.

if you mean how i adjusted the tv cable, sure... look on the braceket where the linkage bolts to the top layer of the intake manifold, between the 'neck' of the intake and the tv cable, there is a large tab. push on that tab with a big screwdriver (push button in towards driver's side of car), then move the square slider on the front (pull it out a little). let me know if you need more info.
