You should check your local laws about it. Nobody in WI is supposed to sell any a/c stuff I guess. I'll hafta go to IL just to get mine converted.
Also, I got the feeling from my local autozone that no autozone carries that stuff.

I still operate my 1985 rides (both Blazer & The Firebird) with R12.
Several have converted to 134 stuff.
I love R12, as it's ice cold in my car!
Makes me feel like a King in traffic.
Yesterday saw a older 1980's Mercedes, which I know has an AC system. Nice paint job, broken AC, 95* in the Sun, windows were down on that Mercedes!

I love my working R12 AC System!

It will work, just make sure and have your system vacuum sucked. The two don't mix and it will cause a freeze lock in your system and simply letting the gasses or presure out is not enough. Most junk yard will do it for free as they relaim the old stuff and sell it.

on the subject of a/c...how hard do the fans blow in ya'lls cars? mine doesn't blow very hard and i'm wondering if its the blower motor starting to go out. or, can i get a high rpm blower for it? leather seats are hot in FL!

When ya "fix" the AC system, one item that should be replaced is the Orfice Tube.
Basically the oil filter in the AC system.
This will prevent the AC Compressor from receiving "junk" & POSSIBLY frying.
It's by the silver canister over close by firewall area, in the tubes (where ya see that large tube connection bolt set up, that's it, inside the tube).
When I recharged my AC, I neglected this & needless to say...
New AC Compressor.
Yep fan motors do go.
New ones are about $30-ish & they are a BITCH to install (due to cover bolt access).
I've done both, actually only item on my AC system I didn't replace was the AC condensor & the hoses, everything else has been replaced & man, does the AC work great!
Leather seats in Fla?
Go get seat covers!
I have cheap skins & a steering wheel cover for the hot season. That black leather steering wheel sure does hurt when left exposed in the sun.

My old compreesor died two years back- at that time I had the entire system upgraded to the R-134. Works just as well as the R-12 did. Note: I did not use the retrofit- It a new R-134 compressor, and a few other parts that are not compatible with R-12. Can't remeber all the details, but everything cost me aprox $600 including calif evac b.s. and labor.

Not many things I don't do myself to a car- but this refrigerant stuff I leave to my neighbor's shop. Calif laws are B.S.
