quick temp question

quick temp question
ok. I got a 89 2.8mfi firebird all stock. when i drive the temp stays fine. even when im out hotrodding around. but when get out ona highway or something the car starts to heat up. drivitemp about 180. and highway 220and up. mostly happens when i hae a constant idle ofabout 3100 Rs and up, then shell start heating up. its a slow heat but depends on how high my rpms are. any suggestion. would be great

Make sure it's there, and not all bent/broken and all... look under the car, you'll see a 'fin' sticking down right under the radiator, about 5-6 inches.

Might need to replace that then. like 95% of the air to your radiator come from that, and I'll bet at high speed it's not deflecting enough air into the radiator.

You can get that piece for cheap at a dealer if you cannot find it in a junk yard. Last time I checked on GMpartsdirect I think it was maybe $30 at most shipped. So you do have a place to go if you cannot find a used one. They call it a radiator baffle I think and it is the thing you might hear scraping the ground when you go up driveways and such.
