What's a good muffler?

Any opinions out there on mufflers for the V6? I just got this 88 Camaro with a 2.8 and the muffler is blown apart. Is there a muffler that will give it a "throaty sound" and not make it sound like a high powered chain saw?

Thanks

Or get the Dynomax catback exhaust system.

Saw "agood" and "muffler" in the same sentence and figured I'd come in and revist one of my better renditions-

LOL Wish I would have though of that for my ex wife might still be married.

Ravin mufflers sound real good. IMO better then hooker or dynomax. Guy that worked for nappa had one on his bronco 2. I could swear that had a v8 by the sound but it was a 6. Not hollow or ***** sounding like the other mufflers on a small displacment engine.

I heard putting on a huge can-type muffler that makes a horrible rattling sound makes your car go faster. (Not to mention a bolt-on spoiler weighing 200lbs that could get your car a part in Star Wars episode 3.)

I highly second that opinion for the Hooker muffler. I origianlly had a dynomax cat but the muffler rusted out badly on me so I went and got a hooker because of all the great reviews.

its as quiet as the stock muffler, but louder under acceleration which I really love. I always hated the drone of the dynomax in OD at cruising speeds or when it downshifted. The hooker makes it sound much nicer no matter what rpm I am at.

Thats just my biased opinion

The Ravin sound this the shyt!!!! I've heard a 4th gen 3.4 ar w/it & it rocked!!!!! Still don't have an opinion on teh Dynomax's sound. Maybe when the car is running right (willl be using my testors tonight & tomarrow) I'll give some input. However, comma, the sound it makes now, thru the pipe to the exhaust, I can hear & feel in the cabin. it's nice, not quiet like the GP is.

Its late again so keep in mind my state of mind...

remember them like propeller whistles??? You blow through it and it winds up and make more and more noise.

Wonder if they make exhaust tips like that? Give you that quad turbo sound and they wind up and down withte touch of the gas. Scare Vett's at the line.

I think tips have a big thing to do with your final sound. all exhaust / mufflers need a tail pipe so it not really loud and a tip can change it even more.

www.goravin.com click on domestic and a pic on the internals pops up. Every series is different by spacing of the Z baffles. I run a 55. I thought it might be to mellow but fired it up and it sounded sweet. I dont know what a 33 sounds like but its gotta be wicked if the 55 is this nasty.

I picked up a used new muffler from the wrecking yard, complete with tips for about $35. Installed for same price.
It's an Arvin (OEM supplier). It's 2 1/2" sized and sounds fine behind the 3.4.
I pulled it from a 3rd gen Z28!
BIG TIP
The quality of your CC sets the tone for the muffler, too.
After I installed the used AC Delco Cc (from one of my 3.4 purchases), the muffler sounded so much better & more throaty, deep.

I have a Flowmaster two chamber on my Blazer & have had for about 10 years. Wish I didn't buy it, in honest truth.
Go to www.pacesetterexhauts.com & check out their stuff.
If ya need to speak with someone, I can offer a tech engineer email.
He's helping us get 3rd Gen F Body V6 Street Legal Exhaust for rides, after the "molds" are made.
Send an email to Fgerle@pacesetterexhaust.com to express your interest in that V6 Legal Header product. He can also help you with the HiPo exhaust set up, too!
Can't beat dealing with the guy that designs or manufactures the stuff!
