how much movement

Hey, quick Q for everyone. How much movement do you have in your tilt steering wheels? mine has maybe an inch, maybe a tad less of up down movement and a tad side ot side. I'm thinking that the bolts underneith the dash are just loose, but i was wonder about how much movement the old tilties have in the rest of your guy's vehicles.

my guess is it's not loose under the dash but inside the column at the tilt joint. vader and several others have posted the fix with pics, might even be something on the main page. one thing i'd add that i never saw is to buy a deep socket for the little torx cap screws, it'll allow you more access.

There's a tech article on tightening your tilt steering column...

usually the prob is the Torx bolts loosened in the column.... i have the slightly rarer prob of the pivot pins having play around them....

it takes alot of pressure, but i can force my wheel to move down a 1/4" - 1/2" if i press hard enough....

not enough of a prob to warrent taking it apart and fixing it.... i dont even notice when im driving.
