3.1 air box
my friend has a 92 bird, 3.1 and auto, and that airbox is like breathing through a straw, what can be done to improve this cheaply and what are other good mods to the 3.1 that are inexpensive?

i have a 90 firebird 3.1 and if your airbox is that small round canister with that tube on the side that has about a 2inch diamiter hole then what i did was take the canister out the drill out the rivits then take the hose off then goto your local hardware store and get a pvc elbow that will fit over the out side
hole and use a file or a dremal tool the shape the elbow to match the roundness of the can the use some appoxy glue and glue the elbow on it it will give you a 4 inch diamiter hole instead of the small 2 inch

wow, this is old, he doesnt even have his bird anymore, somebody backed up into it at a deaalership parking lot and he had to get rid of it, now he has a 96 bonneville (which is sadly significantly quicker than his bird was)

If you like the RAM Air Hoods, and have that kind of money, you could go with a RAM air setup like Redraif has, but tha'ts pretty expensive setup just for a different air box.
The canister the previous poster was talking about is your charcoal canister and has to do with removing fuel vapors. I wouldn't remove that if I were you, in fact, I'd replace it, or if you have an older car I think you can get a replacement filter for it, pm TomP for more.
If you really want a CAI, pay the $50-100 to relocate your battery, and put your CAI on that side. It should help a bit with weight distribution as well, although not a ton.
