lol, no, the crank is NOT light!

Wow... upgrading the turbo, and dropping a fully rebuilt 3.1 into the '88, and almost no interest? I'm disappointed.

I'll get pics of everything I do port, though.

Maybe they didn't like being flipped off [crank pic] and decided not to say anything But about 50 mod reports.

before you put the new motor gother, have the pistons, valves, & cumbustion chambers thermal/ceramic coated. You wont be dissapointed

I would, but until I find a RELIABLE (aka, won't burn off) coating, I don't intend to spend the extra $$.

Maybe when I bore it .030", get some forged 8:1 pistons, and forged rods I might...

wait on that, let me consult my back issues of hpp, they list a good source

edit:

found in Oct 01 issue of HPP, building 9 sec engines
http://www.swaintech.com/

they also mention cryogenic tempering & Evans Cooling Systems (no web site at time, but I have a phone #)

LOL... not sure how much of it is perserverance, or just plain stubborness.

Cam bearings are in! Time to finish cleaning, start P&P'ing everything, and reassembly!

Hey Doward...

Hey Doward, let me know if you need any parts. I have a 3.1 completely dissasembled in my garage. I have machine milled 3.1 heads and intake manifold. New pistons and all. The project was scrapped due to the amount of money and time... but I still have everything.

With all of this talk about tearing old, poor engines apart, I have to ask since I'm in a large bind:

Can someone here supply me with a 2.8 or 3.1 fuel rail? My return fitting on the rail is stripped and leaks like a sieve. And GM wants $52 for the part I need!

That would be nice, except I need one for the caliper pin too and they aren't cheap-like $8 a piece and I didn't know I could find one for those fine threads.

Doward, cmon, ya can't burn, spin, and gouge bearing b4 they're installed, do you really think Summit will give you a refund on those.

Well, least ya can see the cause of isseus, or the result of issues i guess would be more appropriate.

Oh, and Dow...are they ugly, yes, but i saw worse in an automotive class here at the university....amazing what some of the stuff we see in that class look like, and what some people do to engines, like (not maintain them). people who say "The oil was supposed to be changed?"

Here is what i found when I opened up my 2.8 after a loud thunk. Along with the nasty smell of the oil when you take out the crank bolts, lol

I have just one word for those pics: DAMN!... or is it OUCH!.... I don't know I and I don't think it matters that much, but I can say "bye bye engine!" And I suppose that I might as well add that the Chevy I was driving for a parts beater is in the shop unitl next Wed... head gasket went in a poor time and could not be fixed until now, heads are pitted and have to be machined... dad says that the engine is in around a dozen pieces or so around that bay of the shop... OUCH! and it's going to cost over a grand, too.... DOUBLE WHAMMY! OUCH!

damn... our 2.8 somehow got both bearings onto the same side as the cap, and smashed them FLAT.

Check out the heads in the new post, too

You guys realize I'm gonna have nightmares about these photos here. Good ***. Makes me wonder how close my 3.1 was to blowing. Considering I redlined it (tranny didnt want to shift) at every WOT acceleration, which was at least 5 times a day on frequent driving days, and drove it like that for over a year.
But hey...the lady that bought it is still driving it.....

And to ratdude....GOOD ***! I thought Doward's stuff was bad..... Hell, I thought MY 302 was bad with a bent connecting rod. But it didn't knock or ping, ran 14.5 in the 1/4, burned lots of oil, had an oil pump sludged so bad we couldnt believe it built pressure, and it only had 125 psi of compression in the last cylinder. Guess I was one of the luckier ones.

The Dipstick was missin on the car when I bought it, I guess the former owner thought it didnt have any in, so when i drained it it had like 7 quarts in it, heh

I got it from a pawn shop for $450... Turned out to be worth it because it dontated TONS of stuff to my new one, such as my hood and front end. lol :lala:

Yeah, I still care, although I have lost interest in the 2.8l after wanting to get a TA pending my my graduation. I still want to see what the 60 degree engine can do.

These 60 degrees are definitely untapped resources... What we'll be finding out here is whether they turn out to be windmills or nuclear powerplants. Hopefully the latter...
