in the 89 RS camaro im getting the oil pressure gauge reads 0 at idle, then when you get going it reads 15 to 30 "the needle fluctuates", engine runs smooth, no smoke... i check the oil it was down

whats wrong?

it's a possibility that ur oil passages may be wearing out, zero oil pressure though si definately never a good thing, and an engine should alwayz have oil pressure while running, if it doesn't you're gonna wind up with a very not working engine before long. If ur passages aren't wearing out, (becoming so large that it won't maintain propper pressure, and it'd require a lot of oil to fill the given area, it would also explain why it flucuates once the oil's warm, because the pressure isn't steady , instead it's bouncing because of inconsitences with the galleries, so that's a possibility) Another shot would be ur oil pump is failing, and won't provide much presssure untilthings have warmed up a bit, not sure which though...more likely than not the first
. But the second is definately a possibility too, also...is your oil filter clogged up? it might be, with our airplane engines once we change the oil on a plane, we cut the filter open and inspect for pieces of alluminum that might have broken down in the engine bay, easy way to help maintain a proper running engine. But good oil filters will have a bypass valve, so if the filter is unfortunately clogged, it won't starve the engine of oil, instead it'll just not filter it...which isn't much better than the clog, (but a lil better) since apparently they're stuff in the oil that was able to clog the filter in the first place.
good luck bud.
