Ok, this is weird...the light actually works now when the car is running (there is apparently some kind of code set), but when I jumper the A and B terminals(ignition on, engine off, done it hundreds of times) to check for a code like normal, the light doesn't even come on...no code 12, nothing. Its apparrently not the ECM, either, since we swapped in a known good one (new) and it still does it. The ECM is switching into the right mode, since the fan does come on like normal when jumping the terminals, it just wont illuminate the light at all.

Yeah, I even checked the manual to be sure I was jumping the right terminals. Could it be a bad PROM, since that was reused from the old ECM? I can't imagine the new ECM is bad, and in the same way I thought the old one was.

I kind of had this same problem on my engine swap in the s10. I thought it was my wiring.
Light would come on when theirs a code, but I tryed jumping it and nothing.
I never found the problem

wouldn't it be 5 & 6 jumpered? Only codes I got/still have are TPS & MAF related. other than when they first blink every so often, the SES light stays off.

Actually I was using 5 and 6...I was pretty tired when I replied. I just verifed with the manual, so I know thats right. We're going to try another PROM tomorrow night, and hopefully that will fix it.
I remember when I was a young lad I had a old Caprice for sale that had the check engine light on. I didn't know squat about diagnosis back then so I pulled the bulb out, hooked a few wires up to it and ran them into the 110AC outlet to blow the bulb. Put it back in, sold the car the next week. So yeah, I guess bulbs do blow out.

Jump 5 and 6 for sure. Those bulbs are a pita to change. The backlights for my speedo went out. Still haven't replace them all. Just enough to see. I wanna put a 240kph (145mph) cluster in.
