So some 'unofficial' runs...

First things, first... I DO NOT CONDONE STREET RACING. There. Disclaimer. Yay. On to the fun stuff.

Absolutely killed a Saturn of some sort... 35 mph, he comes trying to fly around me, and instinct kicks in -

Drop to 2nd, floor it, some wheel spin, and before 45 I'm back in front. The guy just looked at me like

Then coming down 315, just before Anthony Burbank Road (for any that know where that is) I'm petering along around 55mph, when this 2nd gen Eclipse that I passed earlier comes up on my tail... I'm thinking "? Is he mad I passed him? Must be needing to reassure his g/f of his 'prowess'"

He guns it (saw the lights shift upward a bit) and goes to get around me... I'm in 4th (should have been in 3rd!) and pull hard from 60-100 mph on him. 4-5 car lengths when I shut down, and he goes on by. I was impressed with the 3.1's performance - especially considering that at those rpms, he should have been well into his powerband, and I was simply WOT in 4th gear.

Yeah, I'm thinking 16.3-16.4 area. Stock 2.8 was slightly slower than a friend's 5 spd 2nd gen Eclipse, so I'm def happy.

sounds like your 3.1 runs about as hard as my stock one...and its been over 20,000 miles without an oil change...i must be crazy...oh well...i've got a 3.4 swap planned...but im in college...so time and money is short at hand...im sure the 3.1 is still being broke in though...and there is some more tweaking to do...and there is the little thing called boost still to be added...keep up the good work...

i'm sorry but a stock 3.1 is not going to run with dowards...not with the cam he's got. what does yours run in the 1/4 or 1/8?

im not saying my stock runs as hard as his...though after reading my own writing it seems that way...im saying that what he did with his...im saying is possible with mine...im sure with his complete rebuild that he and vortex just got done with...his 3.1 would spank mine terribly...he also has a 5-speed...i have an automatic...my firebird also is a '92 with a '92 front end swapped on it...it helps lighten it up a little...but not a lot...im sure there are weight differences in our cars...and our driving styles are different...my car runs a low 16 in the quarter though...i ran it a couple times at KCIR when i first got the car...sorry for any confusion...but once i get my 3.4 swapped in...and i buy a Vortex turbo kit...:lala: im sure that my car will give doward's a run for his money...

ok....that sounds a little better. low 16s is quick for a stock one. mine, all modded, is runnin 15.3x but i have found a few restrictions that are KILLING my top end power. once i get those taken care of....it'd guess atleast hig 14s.

high 14's will be really good for a 3.1...i dont care how modded it is...most people wont beleive you when you tell them...i run 14's in my 3.1 liter 90* v6...heck...im sure most people dont believe you when you tell them you run low 15's...keep up the good work...some day i hope to have a turbo like doward...and a heavily modded 3.1...or even more hopefully...a heavily modded 3.4 with twin turbos...:hail:

He's running about 10.75:1 cr...

Keep in mind, I'm not sure if the rings have fully seated (compression test @ 500miles will tell me)... I also have no idea what kind of Eclipse that was, and whether or not it was stock. For all I know, I might have just pulled on a GST!

Like I said, just some speculation, and figured I'd let you guys know it's running hard....

'84TA, are you sure nothing's been done to your 3.1? Running low 16's is very quick for a stock one... you sure you don't have at least a cat back exhaust?

I'm really impressed with the upper end pull of this 3.1 - and I'm still running it through the stock exhaust setup... once the exhaust work is done, I'm positive she'll be running MUCH harder!

I bet your faster than that. With the turbo you need to use them gears more and rev that sucker. Forget the tach and let the seat of your pants tell you when to shift.

Though you right for taking it kind of easy on the new build.

Sounds pretty good. I hate my 2.8l right now. I am highly planning on a 3.4l swap and heavily moddifing it seeing as how I love natural aspirations, and to chicken to try anything as complicated as a turbo.

Lol....right on Doward. When all is said and done...you give me a ride in yours, and I'll give you a ride in mine. Supposedly, with my mods....if I just got a new tranny, a stall converter, and slicks, I could crack 12's. One guy with basically my mods, but he had better headers and a TB, but I have better heads, well he ran a 12.48. I wish I could get it to hook now...but the tirespin is keeping my tranny from blowing up.

Lol agreed. I love how they describe hot air as a good thing for combustion in there...

Maybe if it was explained SCIENTIFICALLY, I MIGHT lean more towards believing it's possible. But yeah, he didn't do that too well. Sorry, but I think I'm gonna have to draw on the sacred BS flag for this....
