POSOTM - Why should the guys with money have all the fun??
We all love the COTM contest, and it's great to see the guys with tons of money put out some really nice Thirdgens...But what about the multitudes of us out there with cars we drive everyday, work on when we can, scrimp and save to add just one go-fast part, or have pieced together from junkyards and swap meets?
Let's start an unofficial new contest, POS Of The Month (POSOTM). Rules are wide open, but if your car looks like a pro-built ringer we'll toss ya! Let's see those garage projects, primered daily drivers, homebuilt mods, if you turned the wrenches yourself then it's fair game! Please only currently driveable cars THAT YOU OWN...No fair posting a wreck or a pile of parts, or a picture you found online!
I'm thinking three separate categories: Work In Progress - You have a set goal and are getting there (it's just taking a while!); Junkheap - It runs, but that's about all that's good about it; WTFWTT (What The **** Where They Thinking) - Anything that in general makes the Thirdgen community cringe to see done to these cars...This includes 4x4 conversions, Slow-Riders, Riced-Out, etc.
Post a pic or two of your car, and tell us briefly about what you've done. The community will post their vote for which car and which category it belongs in each month.
A word of warning: Be mindful that one man's treasure is another man's garbage...This isn't an invitation to slam people over what they've done to their cars, for everyone has a reason for anything they did (or didn't) do. If you don't like something, DON'T VOTE FOR IT. This is meant to be fun, not a flame war. If you have constructive comments about a car, feel free to chime in.

Re: POSOTM - Why should the guys with money have all the fun??
I think the reason there is no POS COTM is because the majority of the third gens are mediocre, average, or below average. We dont want to congratulate those who do nothing to their tired old vehicles. The congratulations should go to those who where fortunate enough to find the time, inspiration and money to pour into their cars to make them something special, and something that many do not have. There is no gold medal for being average. The gold is for something outstanding and a mediocre, below average, half running vehicle is certainly not outstanding.
One of the main things about COTM is that you can not nominate yourself. Its to pat the other guy on the back. How are you going to have someone nominate someone else for POSOTM, that is automatically slamming someone else.
If everyone is going to nominate their own cars there will be a thread full of cars that no one wants to look at.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: POSOTM - Why should the guys with money have all the fun??
I think you missed the point that it's not meant to be a congratulations, it's meant to be fun. There are many Thirdgens out there that will never see COTM because the owner didn't have the thousands to spend like the typical winner does. There are also rumors that COTM is being manipulated by a small group on Thirdgen to basically keep their own little crowd in the limelight. This "contest" is meant to be the antithesis of that...It's the everyman contest for "Hey, it's a pile of crap, but it's MY pile of crap and I'm proud of it". My car for example will NEVER be a show car...It's hard far too hard of a life before I ever took possession of it, and has been pieced together with scrap parts, low budgets, and a good deal of ingenuity. Some look at it as an abomination because I didn't keep it factory stock, or because I mixed parts/years. Others find it unique and original. Either way, it's mine, and I'm proud of the work that went into it. And I know I'm not alone in feeling that way, I see the same idea expressed in these forums daily when people post pics of their cars that would never win COTM. The idea is to give them a way to show their work, in a lighthearted setting.

No offense, but I don't see this going anywhere. I'm not even sure what kind of car you're trying to say should be nominated for this. Guys who DIY everything? Why can't they be nominated for COTM? Factory or near stock drivers? What's the point? It's like a participation trophy, it's meaningless. If you want recognition, build an awesome car. It doesn't have to be shiny, to be awesome.

You dont need a lot of money to build a nice car. It can be done on a budget.
If everyone got to be in the cotm why would it be special?
You dont get to the olympics from sitting on your *** doing b/s everyday, just because you know how to run. Your not gonna win.
Same idea goes for this. You not going to get your car in the light when you dont put a dollar into it. When you dont know how to fab, paint, or build. When you have never buffed, cleaned, washed, or replaced anything. Those people will never get their cars seen by others eyes mainly because no one wants to see it.
But I have to 100% agree on a PROJECT of the month. Someone who has a good story and great motivation behind making there car something great. Some one who actually has the drive and the ambition, and is showing some sort of progress.
Anybody can talk the talk, But who can walk the walk? I dont wanna see some poor old tired POS that someone says they will put all this work into, while in reality they NEVER will. There are a lot of dreamers out there and very few who actually put in the hard work and effort to make something worth while out of a tired mess.

Project of the month would be cool!
The thing is, the COTM vehicles are the culmination of COUNTLESS projects. It takes time, dedication, and vision to get a car to that level.
This would be good motivation for those looking to take steps in the right direction so long as the projects aren't along the lines of "mounting your autozone cone air filter"

Re: POSOTM - Why should the guys with money have all the fun??
The COTM threads are voted on by the majority of our members, so its not the guys with fat wallets, its the guys that have nice cars that the members love. There are cars on here that are nicer than some of the winners, but maybe don't post enough to get the recognition that it deserves. To each their own. A homebuilt project car could be the car of the month just as easy as a HAWKS built super Formula, but it would require to community to vote it in. I would say the everyone of the COTM winners cars started somewhere like your describing and eventually got to the level of being respected and admired enough that the community voted them in.
Best thing I think any member can do in attempt to get the recognition of what they are doing with their 3rd gens is post threads, be active, show everyone what makes your car special when make improvements. If it is positive comments in your thread or a nomination to the COTM it should make you feel good.
I know that TGO as a site will not support making the POSOTM a real part of the site. We/they want to focus on highlighting the 3rd gen community with finished example of what these cars can be with help from the members and information of the site.
MORE PROJECT THREADS!!!!

wow i thought people wouldnt like the idea of a project of the month haha. simply for the fact that the winners of COTM started as projects, but as blackbmagic said you would have to show motivation on getting your car nice lookin and appealing.

I dont see this going anywhere either. Third gens already have a bad/underdog image and spitlighting the crowd that feeds that image is not going to benefit the TG community.
And even though I have been nominated for cotm a few times, I certainly do not have deep pockets. I dont make a big salary, I am just mindful of what I spend my money on. I sacrificed in other areas to get what I truly wanted.
