Found my Leak's(anti Freeze in the motor bay and pass floor)

Hey Everyone,

I found the leak's on my car today. I guess the heater core is shot because when the car was being detailed today they pointed out that I have AntiFreeze coming up from under the carpet on the pass side floor baord!

The under hood leak is the hose right above the Water pump. When you rev the motor up around 3-4k it shows water from it and runs down onto the water pump and find's its way to the timing marks below. I am going to look at the hose in the am(fri and sat I dotn work) and see if I need to adjust the hose clamps or just replace the hose.

I have read up on the rear tire's spin with the 2.8 and have seen that a lot say there car's will do them, my car wont even try unless its really smooth ground or sand/rock/wet. I had a 89 Cavalier Z24(2.8 Auto as well) and it would make the front tires smoke, but I heard they have a little more Hp than our F body's and plus they are FWD so sure that helps them out a bit. I just thought it was very weird how well my z24 would spin the tires with 200k on the motor and trans but the Bird with 76k wont(lol) Oh well she looks good anyway!

Thanks for all the ideal's and thoughts on the hose's and water leaks

The compression on the cavaliar is also probably higher. And yes, on FWD cars, power gets put down quicker with minimum loss of torque.

ok question before I replace the bad hose tho!

Its the hose thats on the left side of the TB if you standing in front of the car(nose of car) is it a form fitted hose? Because the one I am replacing surely isnt, it was leaking at the bottom of it where it meets the pipeing for the water pump and other hose.

Thanks for all the help guys

Donnie H.

That sounds a little bit confussing above so here is a pic of what hose is bad.

Pull the other hose off the TB and stick in on to the other hole and you have complete the TB bypass. Everyone does that mod. No need for all that hot coolant to run through the TB.

I blame most of that on the slush box. For one it makes it way to easy for people who don't know how to drive to beat on them. All they gotta do is mash the pedal and go.

Stick cars tend to be different as it take "work" to do that and people tend to drive it easier. Or are afraid to rev n drop it and shift fast and all that where its easier to just smash the pedal in an auto and hang on with two hands.

I tend to "baby" my car as drive a stick all the time makes you lazy and I shift like an old woman driving a school bus but when I need to I can drop the clutch and roast them all I want. Though spinning tires doesn't get you anywhere fast. Though it will get you to the tire store quicker.

And womans cars tend to be treated better. The original owner and 2nd owner of my car was a woman and its has new show room floor power at 200k. Needless to say it nice cause when I need it, I can drop the hammer, down shift and go.

You'll be here shortly.
Be wise & look up my heater core replacement & parts number thread.
I gave numbers for the 2 hoses that go to the firewall & the core.
I bought a new core from an auto parts store (cost was $30-ish)
That hose at engine?
Buy new from dealer.
PS Check for an AC Delco dealer in your area BECAUSE THEY SELL THE GM HOSES FOR LESS THAN A DEALER DOES atleast that's how it worked for me in Van Nuys, CA area.
My hoses ran about $20-$30. Yeah that much. Preformed curved hoses
