Knock sensor Retrofits
have any of you retrofitted a knock sensor on your motor before? I want to set up my new motor with one for a little insurance. Any details would be appreciated, thanx.

A 1986 2.8mpfi should already have one on the pass side of the engine right around the starter.
I am planning on attempting an install of a 1996 LT4 knock sensor which is supposibly one of the best sensors GM made in that it doesnt recognize as much, eleminating "false readings".
Money has limited this so far.
Their is also a resistor/wiring trick you can do for less money if you dont mind hacking a harness.

That's an odd thing..
Thing is, the 2.8 did have a Knock sensor, problem is, it wasn't hooked up. There wasn't even a connector for it anywhere on the harness
. the sensor was also inserted into the water jacket hole (makeshift plug?). I also nned to find a good place to put the coolant sensor so I can eliminate that darn code.

my camaro repair book list them on the 2.8. It is a blue wire.
Yes, on my 2.8 in the s10, I had to replace it and when I pulled it out, coolent came out also.

by golly, you're right, but that still doesn't solve the problem of why it isn't on my actual car. All I have is the Coolant Temp Sensor(grn wire) but no blue. Kinda strange, huh? I even pulled my computer and don't have a blue wire in the harness.

then I have no clue. I just know what my book(s) say. As for it not being on the engine, it could have went bad, or the plug broke and someone said "hey it runs fine w/o it" and hacked it.
But that doesnt explain why its not in the ecm wireharness.
