Strange... I could have sworn the changeover was '88 - I've got two rear ends, one a late '87 (26 spline) the other original off a late '88, and it's 28. Maybe it was an '89, then?

From my readings, it also depended on what production line (f-body, s10, astro, etc).
I belive on f-bodys it was mix in 88, full in 89.

The mix was in 1989. I have parted out enough of these cars to notice this. 1988 is 26 splines and 1990 is 28 splines. 1989 is a lottery. Good luck!

I have another vehicle with an Eaton clutch type posi in it and am thinking of switching to a Torsen unit.

What kills me is I can't find 28 spline axles in any junkyards around here. It's rare to find a 90-up f-body in a Central NJ wrecking yard. I found one, a v6 car- that would've been sweet, I know the axles wouldn't have been twisted- but the f'ing pinion lock bolt snapped. After two days of lying in the "junkyard funk" (moldy mud/bugs/spiders/glass/etc) screwing with a hammer and a set of chisels and picks, I gave up.
So my only option is to spend $300 on the Moser set... OR, spend $500 for a brand new posi. Man. Decisions, decisions...
