hey guys, well i have a 88 v6 camaro and i have a buddy with a 89 gta, he converted his car to carb a while back and has a lot of spare parts he wants to throw into my car, so heres the question whats interchangeable? maf, distributor relay (or whatever its called) and a bunch of other stuff?

any input would be appreciated

 

Pretty much nothing engine-related... MAFs are completely different (frequency film digital MAF vs hot-wire analog MAF), I'm going to assume you mean ignition module as far as "distributor relay", and that might swap over, however there's no performance gain to be had.. probably the same exact part.

Swapping the 7165 ECU he has into your car, however, would open up the use of the analog hot-wire MAF, however you'd need a very custom chip to make the swap work.

Post a complete list of what he has.. we'll let you know.. however, don't be surprised if there's relatively little you can use in stock form.

I doubt anything will be of use to you as far as engine parts go. The only V6 I know of that has any interchangeability with the V8's is the 4.3 (and that's limited)....your engine is considerably different. Brakes, suspension, and body parts are the only items that are really interchangeable between V6 and V8 thirdgens, as far as I've seen...
