could u give us a little more description on what you're talking about. The performance suspension option that i'm thinkin of is Ws6 package, but i'm pretty sure that's a v8 only option, and trans am ontop of that...do you happen to have an RPO sheet in your car that you could pull the codes off of to give us a better idea of what it is?

I don't have a build sheet with my car. Is there a way to look up numbers or whatever you need to tell. On the passenger side of the inside on the dash it says "Performance suspension" so nto sure what that means. I do know i have a big sway bar on the car. Any ideas?

In your "trunk" you have a storage compartment, open that up and see if their is a label on the lid. If so, compare its vin # to the one on your dash/insurance/registration.

If its matching, type us out the three digit rpo codes on it.

You could measure your sway-bars, too. Take an open-ended adjustable wrench, and tighten it down on the middle of an anti-sway bar. Slide the wrench off and hold it against a metric ruler. Don't start your measuring at the end of the ruler; rulers are usually inaccurate at the ends. So hold the wrench against the 1cm mark, and count off the millimeters. WS6's came with 36mm front sway bars... most mid-80's v6 f-bodies came with 34mm front sway bars.

Ok. I measured it out. I have a 36 mm sway bar in the front, did not do the back. Does this mean I have WS6 suspension on my car? I know this was mostly on V-8 so this with make my Firebird more rare now? Also i do not have a paper in the trunk with numbers, but will double check. Can someone look up history on my car if i give you the vin#? Thanks

I think GM might be able to print off a list of RPO's on your vehicle from the vin, but we can't do it on the site (that i know of). My RPO sheet was in the cars center console, stuck to the lid, remember my dad saying "don't throw that away"when i got the car from him, haven't uncovered the build sheet yet, it might be there, we'll see when i do the carpet...but who knows, don't really care actually. I guess if ur car really has a ws6 suspension, (we'll find out w/ a list of RPO's) it'd be rare, don't know if that'd make it mroe desireable...but yeh, probably a tad more rare.

So i have to call a Pontiac dealer and see if i can get a build sheet for it? If i went to carfax.com would that do it? I think the front sway bar is 36 mm though.

doubt carfax would do it. Don't ask for a build sheeet, although u might be able to request one , not to sure. Ask for an RPO sheet, or the RPO codes for the car. They might be able to give you those, or you might have to go to pontiac to get it , remember, chevorlet, cadillac, buick or other GM dealers should work just as well.

Yeh, that'd be a good starting point. There's a chance u migth end up having to visit ur dealer and have a list printed off, it can be pretty extensive...even if a car had no options, it technically is still equipped with tons of options...everythings listed, what type of radio, performance sound, performance suspension, seat color, interior primary color, secondary color, etc etc etc...everything from your spoiler, to your trim is on the list, and all represented by three letter/number identifiers....WS6 has become a household name more recently, as it's the highest end T/A now available, back in the day it was the "hi-po optioned suspension" and now its the "hi-po ramair option" either way, it's the performance version of whatever is stock.

Hey tom, if you happen to look at this again, i got curious about my sway bar, measured it, and it appears to be roughly 30 mm, not 34 nor 36. Was the 34mm setup on later model birds/maros...thought id ask since we're on the subject.

I measured it again and it turns out to be 34 mm. Which sucks. I am wondering though if there is another type of high performance suspension on me cay. I do not think that decal was gluded on because thats the orginal trim in my xar. Anything u guys can think of?

85bird, my 92RS came with a 32mm front bar, which is usually larger then the olders. It wouldnt surprise me one bit that your car would have a 30mm.

camaroman, 34mm front with a 24mm rear is whats ideal for these cars. How big is your rear bar?

I think it is smaller then 24 but i will look. Do you know what performace suspension is then? I know 34 mm solid is the king sway bar for this car.
