Cold start and fan woes!

Hello All:
I have a problem with my 85 Bird that I can't track down. It has a 2.8L MPFI with an auto trans. The problem is that when the car is first started, it stumbles and dies. When I finally get it cracked, it idles fair, but if you hit the throttle it dies. It does this until it starts getting warm, and gets progressively better as it warmer. It runs fine when it is at normal running temp (195-200). The other problem is that the electric fan will not come on at high temperatures. I thought that since the coolant temprature sensor controlled both the cold start injector and the fan that this must be it, but a new one did nothing. I replaced the fan relay also, but again no change. I have been researching the board for the answer, but I haven't seen this exact problem. I have staight wired the fan and I know it works, and I have jumped the red wire in the relay to the fan and it will work, but it will not work with the green wire even if the car is 240 degress+. I also grounded out the wires that plug into the coolant sensor making it "think" it the engine hot, but it will not do anything. have had a few people say it may be the ECM, but I am tired of throwing parts at it w/o knowing what it wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Only problem I have had like this is when your coolant is a bit low, I think there are actually two temperature sensors... and the one that controlls the fan is higher up maybe? But if you are a bit low on coolant then the fan won't come on... and sometimes the guage can read wrong...

Car: 85 firebird
Engine: Pos 2.8 pulled and replaced with a 350 tpi motor converted to carb.
Transmission: 700r4, vette servo, shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
the sensor that turns the fan on can not be the same one that turns the cold start injector.
Im saying this because i dont even have the fan sensor on my engine anymore since i went with a hayden adjustable fan switch and relay. My cold start injection still works fine.

Well, that would be because the CTS *doesn't* control the cooling fan. The fan temperature switch is on the back corner of the passenger side cylinder head.

As far as the cold idle, the CTS does play a major factor in that.. however, the cold start injector doesn't... it's just used as an alternative to a choke. Once the engine is running, cold idle enrichment duty is given entirely to the primary injectors.

I'm trying to figure out whether the CSI is on its own system or not... It seems that there are two temp sensors on the intake manifold, one with a small connector right next to the second one with a huge injector-like connector. I am almost convinced that one CTS is for the ECM and the other acts as a thermostatic switch that turns the CSI on and off, but I don't know for sure, and I really want to get rid of my CSI as its a pain in the neck.
