MSD cap and rotor

the msd p/n 8430 will fit our engines. yes, it is for a 4.3 but it DOES fit. i just put one on my car about an hour ago. the set was like $27 or so and that is the cap and rotor. i didn't think that they would fit either but, they do work with the electronic distributors. just thought i'd throw this out as FYI since it does occasionally get asked about.

Sweet! I'll have to order that in, and inspect it against the $16 Conrad cap/rotor I've got now

they look exactly the same. the conrad, mine anyways, seemed to be a little bit darker red....only difference i noticed. but, i tried checking my old cap and wires for resistance...i couldn't even get a reading on a few of the wires and some of the terminals on the cap....think that was hurting any power????

Check the wires from terminal end to plug end for resistance, and then check the cap itself, from the inside to the post, for resistance...

I wonder if the brass ones conduct better or no?

i checked them seperately. some of them, i had to cut about a half and inch off of the dist. end to get anything. three of the terminals on the conrad cap were all rusty/corroded. i checked resistance on the msd cap and the wires as i put them on....very little, next to none.

Sweet, thanks for the info, AM91Camaro_RS!

As far as not using a brass cap, if you have an MSD ignition: http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen/burnt-cap.html

Dang. before I install my blaster 2 coil I know I'm going to get a new cap and rotor.

That happened with a full ignition (6AL box and Blaster SS coil), before that I had "just" an Accel HEI Supercoil, and I'm pretty sure I used a normal cap/rotor at some point. Your stock cap might be okay with just the aftermarket coil.
