3.8, the v6 that should have came in the 3rd's instead of the 60*'s

I have a friend that has a 97 Firebird with the 3800 and its a nice highway cruise and even great in town, not too much overkill either way with good insurance rate's and better gas mileage (Tucson is running right round 2.00 plus up for 87 Oct right now)

still off topic, but yeah, how come the 3.8s, or even the 4.3s weren't put in the f-bodies?

I have to say that I know what you mean; my car feels fast at times. But when some one tried to race or play with me I soon loose the felling of fast my little 2.8 has!

Last night I got in on a small race out in the middle of nowhere (between Catalina and Tucson) country area, with a few stop lights.

There was a 90ish Honda Accord 4 door Base (guy surely couldn’t have been driving correct) because my 2.8 blew it off the road. The sad part is the 2000ish base Cavalier kicked my butt al over the place Talk about a good Laugh I had it being whooped by an economy 4 cylinder car.

I was wondering about the cold running thing also, my car seeems to run so much better when it first started say for maybe the first 10 minutes, wish it would run that good all the time.

Guess I could always swap some of the oil out with a little V-8 juice (LOL) but for some reason dnt think that mod would help very much.

Later

I agree, if only there was an efficient way to cool the intake air. Heat seems to be the number 1 enemy for our engines. CAI kits really dont seem to do squat.

Gumby made a thread talking about the same thing. Yeah the 60*'s seem to run better the cooler they are. I have a aftermarket adjustable fan switch on mine along with a 180 thermo. I have it set so the fans come on to whatever i set them to. Car seems to run better this way then it did before.

Also i dont think a cia does much for these cars. Look at the amount of space under the hood as it is. Theirs plenty of room for cooler air to come up between the rad and motor. And around the rad if you removed your ac compressor.

Some people argue that the cia still brings in cooler air then whats their as is.

the main thing i liked about my CAI when i had it on there was the size. it didn't neccessarily get cooler air but it was able to get more air than the stock setup. i switched to the dual snorkel tpi setup now, i like it a lot.
