3.1 ecm questions. New guy to the v6
3.1 ecm questions. New guy to the v6
Wasup everyone havn't been in the v6 boards yet considering i was driving an 86 trans am with a 305. But now i'm driving a 1992 25th ann. RS.
Heres the question. I've been reading alot in here and have come to the conclusion that i need to find a way to scan my car. I see that the 3.1's ecm isn't to friendly to any of the data logging software that i have found. The reason i chose this car was because of the info i've seen bouncing around about turbocharging these little b@$t@rd$. Pretty impressive numbers from the guy with the 3.4.
Ok back to my question. The 2.8's ecm can be scanned with atleast the winaldl software right? Can i and would it be worth it to change out my ecm and harness if nessesary so i can scan my car. Can't really install a turbo on it if i don't know what it needs when it's done and running.
I allready have my cable and laptop that i used with my t/a. Or is there anyone here who can make the software scan the 3.1's ecm? I've got one of my friends very interested in helping me fab up the piping and get the turbo in after my beach trip in august. Just need to resolve the issue of being able to tune the car.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is pretty sad.. someone's gotta have done some datalogging on a 3.1 *pokes pasky a few times*
Ok since no one seems to know an answer to those quesions i'll try another.
From what i've been reading the 3.1's use a 1227730 ecm which is the same ecm for the speed density tpi cars correct? I've also read that the v-6 harness could be converted to a v-8 harness by adding the 2 injector wires and repinning the harness.
Ok the v-8 tpi harness can be converted to use the 1227749 ecm from the scyclone and the typhoon so that you can better tune the car for boost.
So heres the question. If i have the same basic harness and the same ecm, can my harness be repinned to work with the 1227749?

Yes... theoretically anyway
I did alot of research on the MAF V6 to 749 swap a few months back... all you really need to do is find the differences between pinouts of the V6 Speed Density ECU (which is a 7730 derivative, not an actual 7730) and the 7730, if any, and take those into consideration while slightly revising a 730->749 swap list.

I think what your problem here is the cable. I don't know how you have it set up but on some of them, the cable only read ECM data off of Pin "E" on the ALDL with a baud rate of 160. With the 3.1L in the 92, you need to read the ECM data off of pin "M" of the ALDL which has the higher 8192 baud rate. You probably just need a new cable.

Thats sorta what i was thinking techsmurf.
Trickster: As for the cable. I don't think the problem is the cable. I'm just going buy what i've read and seen on winaldl. There is no selection for the 8192 baud rate and no selection for the 3.1's ecm in the configuration. So if anyone knows how to set it up let me know. I'm going to look into changing over to the 749 a little more.
ANyone have a diagram of the ecm pinouts for a 3.1, a 91-92 sd car and a typhoon?

Most of the info in this thread SHOULD be accurate, and it should contain a few useful links. Lacks any info on the SD V6 ECU though.
