timing chain oops
ok...so went to replace my timing chain and made a possible oops...i spun the cam pulling the gear off and then didn't remember where it was...however...my uncle came to help and we set #1 at TDC...then figured out the cam spins once two for every 2 of the crank...#1 and #4 are both at TDC and the lifters for those cylinders were both down meaning with the heads on (cause they're off for some machining) the valves will be closed...and they should be closed when those pistons are up becasue that would be a losing battle for the valve...now...my distribtor is also out so i'm not sure if the #1 is on the compression or exhaust stroke...that would be my last problem to figure out...any help would be great...hope i also go the cam and crank together...the timing marks are aligned on the gears by the way...so just figuring out what stroke i'm on and how to drop the distributor back in...

if youre on compression stroke, the valves are closed(lifters down), if youre on exhaust stroke the exhaust valve is open (one lifter up). if the marks line up on the gears and both the valves are closed on the #1 cylinder, youre all set there. the rotor will be facing toward the pass. side of the car if its on #1 TDC. the firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6, so #4 will be facing the drivers side of the car. #1 should be labeled on the cap, it may be hard to see, but it SHOULD be there.
