problems with my v6 guys (long)
ok guys i was heading to the track tonight and the car was running great and all of a sudden the rpms just dropped and the car dies flat out. it didnt spit or spudder or backfire or anything. it just died. so i pull over to the side of the road. when the key comes on the pump comes on so i check for spark andhave none. here is the part that really pisses me off. it has brand new accel 8.8 mm wires, splitfire platnum plugs, accel super coil, accel cap&rotor, and a new ignition module. the only thing i have done to the ignition most recently is i reposistoned the coil so it wasnt right over the valve cover sucking heat in. i mounted it off the firewall. it was mounted sideways but i didnt think that was a problem. so i call ym dad and he said because the coil was turned sideways it burned it up. so he brings a stock coil i have to me and we try that and still nothing. so he thinks its the igntion module. it was brand new last spring because the car did the same thing to me, just quit. anyways is the ignition module whats wrong with it? who makes a good one? this is the info my dad told me hes been a mechanic for almost 30 yrs now.
also guys what the hell else can i do to my little v6 to give it more juice. i have the full tune up listed above, 160* thermo, asp crank pulley, custom cai, ported intake, blue racer cam, fully rebuilt motor 50,000mi ago, blocks been bored .040 over, 700r4 trany with s10 torque converter, b&m servo and .500 boost valve. stock 3:42 gears, pipe in place of cat and a full 2 1/2" dynomax super turbo catback. ok after all this my friends 98 sunfire with only plug wires, cai and a fart muffler can beat me in the 1/4
You could mount that coil upside-down if you wanted to.
Make sure you have power going to the coil. Most likely you either have a bad pick-up coil or a ign module. If it's the pick-up coil, just rebuild the whole distributor with a new pole piece and a new mainshaft as well(YES, the mainshaft can go bad).
