car is at the shop and they are replacing my CTS, help!

Ok the car has been at the shop since sat afternoon, They started looking at it today. They said its the CTS that makes it just idle weird at times and just shut off at remote times because its not getting any response from it.

I wouldnt think this would shut the car off just like flipping my car key off would it? I mean when I went to go from a dead stop was like someomne just flipped the key off, first time was fine and started back after 2 try's then next 3 times it would either crank and then just stop cranking or would either not even crank at all. after it sits for say 20-35 mints it would crank up fine and off we could go!

all basic parts had been replaced also, Fpump, fpump strainer,Ffilter,plugs,pcv,rotor,cap,O2 sensor, the ICM in the dist was removed taken to Auto Zone where they tested it like 10 times and it showed good so it went back on the car.

I am ready to throw some sticks in the trunk and light her up (hehhe Just Kidding) But Iam really starting to get tired of getting stuck at stop lights in Tucson's rush hours (ughh) as if being in that mess isnt bad already without tring to push a 4000 pound beached whale off the road way.

Thanks for the help guys

Donnie H.

Did it set a code for the CTS??

It's not very common, but I have experienced a faulty CTS causing stalling and even a no-start condition. I was driving a 2.8 Corsica and the coolant temp reading went from ~200*F to -38*F (open circuit) and the car shut off and wouldn't restart until the temp reading went back to normal. The wiring was fine, the sensor would just intermittently open.

hell if it is the CTS replace it yourself.

You know they will charge an arm and a leg to do something that simple.

But yes CTS' can cause problems like that. If they even "intermentantly" open, it's like a $20-25 fix.

Hell check that, like a $15 MAX fix... A/Z 9.99.

If it still stalls when you get it back, if I were you, I'd replace the ignition module and pickup coil in the distributor anyway. Are those two pieces still the originals?

question how did they go from cts to cat? sounds like they want money, i have read on these boards about the cts making a car do that, but um why were they checking your cat if you didn't tell them to, i'll bet your transmission needs work on the next conversation,.....ihad a shop out here tell me my whole ignition system was bad right down to the rotor itself, took off the cap and it was clean as crap, just sayin watch your back man...i personally am going to do a little board search before i take my car to a shop again so far collectively i think they have posted how to rebuld any component for a reasonable price on these boards

Well the shop can say everything is bad. That is finw with me, but I require them to show me the old parts. If they don't, they don't get paid for parts unseen. Then I test the parts given, and lord help them if the part tests good. Because then it become a fraud deal with the local lawmen.

I agree, -always- ask for the old parts, unless you trust your mechanic 100%. My mechanic actually keeps a small stock of common GM parts, like TPS and CTS and MAP sensors, and will swap one in just to see if it fixes the problem. I always mean to pick up some of those from junkyards, but I always forget...
