Head to Autozone, and rent the Hydraulic Lifter Removal Tool... otherwise, the big magnet (in their tool section) on the telescoping pole works really well at pulling the lifter up - if it gets stuck in the bore (which is highly likely) then just pull it out with pliers.

I used my fingers/fingernails
You can use a small pick as well. There are places on the top of the lifter to "grab" onto if you know what you're lookin at

2. Works great. Have someone with small fingers reach into the cam chamber through the holes in the top and push the lifters out until they stick (generally about 1/3 of the way out) and put a pair of pliers around the narrower portion if the lifter. Using the edge of the block or a block of wood as a pivot point, lift the lifter out (may take a lot of force depending on how many miles are on the lifters) and put the new ones in.

Re: Freaking Lifters!!!!!!
I had 4 that were stuck, came up to just before the narrow point was visible easily but then just stopped....after attempting several methods the one I found that worked, was gripping the inner and outer wall of the lifter firmly with large pliers and yanking fast, didn't work unless I yanked on it, otherwise it still just got stuck, posting this here because even though the thread is 7 years old I just found it cause mine are stuck so hopefully this method helps the guy that comes along in another 7 yrs :P
Also only do this if you're tossing them, otherwise you'll mar the machined surfaces and what not, but if you're pulling them, its probably to toss them.

Way I see it, if I find an old post while looking for answers/solutions, then someone else will find it too, so if I have something useful/helpful to add I do...
