EST problem, timing not advancing...
Ok, last saturday my car stubled and fell dead on me. I have no codes in the memory. I went ahead and put a fresh starter and battery in (heat soak issues are sorta non-existant now, free parts ROCK). Anyhow, my car has a stuble at idle now that started about 2 weeks ago (I got a code 43 one night while cruising, so I replaced my O2 sensor, seeing how I had another one laying in my trunk). Code went away of course (light wasn't permanently on, just in the memory). Anyhow, now the car stumbles at idle, and has a tendancy to die at lights. When I hook the Snapon scanner up, it shows No timing advance.... Timing is in the only position where it will run "properly", by that I mean make power (quite advanced). It doesn't ping or backfire, just has a stumble at idle, and scanner says 0* advance, even at part throttle ??? I went ahead and replaced the ICM (old as heck, need a change), didn't soolve the problem. ANy ideas, or people with similar problems, HELP.
thanks as usual!

You forgot to reconnect the tan EST bypass wire, the EST bypass wire is broken somewhere, or the EST signal wire is broken or shorted. ICM if it weren't brand new.

could ur equipment be messed up? check to make sure the EST bypass wire is connected, then hook a timing light up to the car, and give her a little gas...should see your timing increase off the chart.

It isn't the wire, it's shielded and connected. That's a good Idea though 85f-bird, I'll have to do that tommorow (had enough of cars today). I really need to find out why the motor is stumbling at idle though. I thought that the timing had somthing to do with it, but I doubt it. I just hope it isn't a mechanical issue (if it was, I figured the problem wouldn't go away at part throttle like it does). Fuel pressure is good as well. I guess I'll go ahead and swap out my "backup" ECM, even though it's not coding, I suspect eectrical issues. That Edelbrock manifold and 4bbl setup is looking VERY tempting.
