new TCC selenoid = TCC operation

of course the operation isn't computer controlled yet and it's via a toggle switch, but u get the idea. Had the new selenoid installed this mornign, along with a new trans filter, everything seems to be working good. (now everyone may understand why i kept asking about the toggle switch, as my VSS isn't there because of the dash swap, and i have yet to move to an electronic VSS, as a result, for those long hauls, i'm gonna need the toggle)

The only downfall (although it's good to know) is that the pan's fluid was gritty and dirty. Tranny was rebuilt 40K ago, and when the TCC selenoid went out, i was essentially SOL. I never noticed that the thing was bad, just that my car was running somewhat higher RPM's on the highway, and after a long highway drive, the car would have trouble engaging between 1-2 on the shift, unless a lot of gas was applied keeping the line pressure up. So, eventually here (hopefully in a year or two) it'll need the rebuild, just hoping it's not overly soon. And to my thought, there are plenty of 4l60e's in the yard that i hunt at, can get one for mid hundreds, and if it goes far enough down the line, i'll be doing the 5 speed boogie....SHE BETTER LAST A WHILE!!!

'85, glad to hear the new solenoid helped! Hey does your trans "slip" after it completes the 1-2 shift? Or does it have problems making the shift itself? Mine will go into second okay, and then "vroooom!" it slips. I suspect the 2-4 clutch apply pin, but it's too late now, b/c the band is definately shot- the car slips in 4th now.

But hey try this next time; manually shift gears. Put the stick in 2nd when you take off from a stop. When the shifter's in 2nd, the line pressure is almost doubled- and it solves my problem. Line pressure is also "almost doubled" when the stick's in 1st, so you could row your own thru all the gears if you want to- but putting it in 2nd is enough. (And of course, haha, be sure to leave 2nd when the rpm's get high enough! )

she used too, a lot....

when i'd drive the car onthe highway for a while, then get back on to regular surface streets the car would have a horrible time going between 1 and 2...not going into one , just one and two, 3-4 was always ok.

Tonight i drove the car for about 2.5 hours, had the thing slip between 1-2 a total of 3 times on surface roads, and only when i had very very very very light acceleration, such as, i wasn't even touching the gas pedal. I do believe that the selenoid essentially has solved the problem i had gotten so used too, thinking of installing another cooler also to help aid in keeping the fluid a tad more cool also.
