Visually checking fuel injectors

I plan on checking my fuel injectors for leakage. Do I have to pull the CSI or can I just unhook it from the fuel rail, hold my finger over the hole and have someone prime the pump? Also, to check for spray pattern, do you just crank the motor over once?

As for checking for leakage, I'm not really sure. I know you can check if they are firing by listenig with either a mechanics stethiscope or a length of small diameter dowl rod. Just cup your hand around one end, and put your hand over you ear, and put the other end on the body of the injector. There should be and audible clicking sound if it is working properly.

Max.....

Can the CSI leak like the regular ones do, meaning drip inside the motor? Thanks, Not taking over subject, but wondering.

Personally I'd just put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Why pull the injectors if you don't have to?

You CAN pull the fuel rail up just enough to see the injector tips, even if you have a CSI, like I used to. There is just enough give in the CSI piping to let you do this, but if you can't seem to do it, the CSI is held in place by a single 10mm bolt, easily accessed at the rear of the manifold, if you have the right tools, of course.

Well, I wouldn't reccommend trying to hold the pressure on the rail with your FINGER. Most people have trouble trying to plug up a hose (around 20 PSI MAX) with their fingers, how do you expect to hold back 40+ PSI of gasoline?

Sure a CSI can. Good luck finding one new though... they're discontinued. And the O-ring is some kind of bastard size O-ring that you probably won't be able to find anywhere!

But sixbanger (the guy who originally asked) should put a fuel pressure gauge on. He said he just wants to check for leakage- and a fuel pressure gauge will do the same thing with much less work. It might even point to a fuel pump problem.

Nobody likes using a fuel pressure gauge huh?

Yeah, i don't have one or have access to one, Hope his are not leakying, Are the bolts on the manifold hard to get off if they have never been taken off? Thanks again TomP
